This year there seems to be a glut of starters who are the highest paid pitchers on their team who've fallen from grace to be only the number 5 starter.

The 7 starts prior to this one he had a 6.19 ERA and was 1-4 then gives up 4 hits and 2 runs in the first 2 innings tonight when those comments where made. I think they were well justified at the time.

his war this year is 0.1, the definition of replacment level player, except paid almost 10% of the jays spend.

To think Jesse Chavez and Gavin Floyd were the 7-8 inning bridge to Osuna at the start of the year.....as Cheese would say Larf.

Gotta hand it to Shatkins these reclamation projects in Grilli and Benoit have turned out really well for the Jays, and Biagini being a rule 5 draft pick is icing on the ol bullpen cake.

Still missing a capable lefty though. Cecil has been so inconsistent.

WAR doesn't work for knuckleball pitchers - even the guys on Fangraphs openly admit it. WAR is based heavily on fielding independent pitching (FIP) numbers, but that falls apart for the knuckleball which generates lots of weak contact and not strikeouts. Dickey's ERA always outperforms his FIP by a significant margin so it's not really fair to look at WAR when that is based mostly on FIP.

Tough start for Estrada. Back to back homers. Jays down 2-0.

lol

Red Sox score two in the first inning and the Orioles score 4 in the first inning.

Meanwhile the Jays are down 3-0 early.

Hopefully the tide turns in all these games.

Brutal.

Only 5 runs. I wouldn't put this in the loss column yet. 7 innings left.

Yeah, I'm not overly concerned yet either. Lots of time. Just can't give them any more runs.

If Baltimore wins today, we'll have 3 teams all in the 70 wins range in this division.

I don't care what anyone says...AL East is still the BEST division in all of MLB (that's why it feels so good when you win the stinkin' tough pennant).

Ridiculously tough division. And that's with the Yankees rebuilding.
