Even though Laine has had a rough time in Columbus I still think he has some value with his goal scoring ability. Take the islanders for example, they desperately need a scorer next to Horvat and Barzal could feed him all day long. Gudbranson and Elvis have negative value, but Gudbranson is done in 2 seasons and Elvis in 3. Elvis and Wolf would be a decent tandem and the perfect timeline for Wolf to play more than Elvis. If it gives us a chance at potentially selecting Demidov/Lindstrom/Catton and then selecting a D at 9, I think you do it.

Columbus is not trading #4OA for cap relief.

CLB signs one or both Monny and Lindy. Because that's the way the cookie crumbles......
And then reforms into a cookie but with a Blue Jacket!

I agree, that is why I think Chychrun for 4 makes way more sense. My point was only I would not take Gudbranson and Elvis rather I would try to provide them more relief by taking on Laine who may be possible to rehabilitate (in response to the post about them trading it for cap relief)

The Islanders have 5.8 million in cap space and 5 players to sign. Lou ####ed them good, they cannot afford Laine.

That’s fine, they can continue to stay in mediocrity and continuously draft top 5 and get nowhere. Plus, Waddell probably wants this team to start progressing, and what better way to do that with gaining extra cap from players you probably don’t want to waste a buyout on.

It pretty much goes against the Waddell model of accumulating draft picks and building outside of UFA. I suspect he wants to move down from 4 and pick up other young assets or picks. But if he is going to trade it for a now asset it is much more likely to be a cost controlled asset like Chychrun. He has 24 million in cap space to sign 8 players, it is not like he actually needs space to go make a UFA splash. He will have even more after he moves Laine.

Chychrun is not worth the 4th OA either. He’s a UFA in 1 year Columbus would want a much younger player who is cost controlled.

This is apparently a new definition of the word ‘mediocrity’.
The CPers who crap on the Flames for being mediocre would be thrilled if they got a string of top-5 draft picks.

I think they might look at a trade like that with maybe Ottawa adding a 2nd or something if it is a sign and trade. Not sure anyone will give anything of substance to them for the pick anyway in terms of a young player who is cost controlled because the only time a player is cost controlled is during a ELC.

lol so let trade all our top picks ? How is that going to improve them?
Nobody is going to trade a top 5 pick for salary relieve
The Devils didn’t even trade a top 10 pick for a retained #1 goalie

What is that 41? Patrice Bergeron?

Probably more of a Hunter Smith but the 4 is probably Cale Makar.

You aren't getting into the top 5 picks without giving up one of Coronato, Zary or Wolf. So basically, it's not happening

With the exception of Wolf, I would be willing to at least look at that option. There's a few game-changing defencemen in that range.

Apparently the Devils wanted Coronato included for 10OA, which would make sense from a Devils perspective.

So Makar and cap dump for Vladar and Hunter Smith?
Conroy needs to get on this ASAP

In the Athletic, Eric D suggest the Flames are eager to see what a healthy Vladar can do with Wolf next year. So maybe now that Markstrom is gone, this is what they want to go with.
