Sillenger, Roslivic, 1st would be realistic to me. Maybe they can protect the 1st contingent on them making the playoffs and if not they send 2x 2nd round?

They have to wait to see if the team is still bad???? AGAIN???? They had an average at best team, subtracted from it, and will likely subtract more from it, and they want to see what they can do?
I guess you never know, this time might just work....right?
|
Well, they had an average at-worst team, considering the team had some career-worst performances from their top/most important players and were still an average team. They also added to it.
They also have a new coaching staff and according to pretty much anyone in the know, the biggest issues have been removed.
But you know exactly how the season is going to play out so why am I telling you this.

See I'm not very good at this but I would like to see Kent Johnson and David Jiricek for a signed Lindholm. Am I completely out to lunch here keeping in mind I have not looked at their cap situation and might need to take something back?

Roslovic is a Columbus born American. He isn’t leaving there imo.
Regarding trading at the deadline, it’s typically to contenders and those 1st round draft picks will be back half or late round picks. Usually not high percentage of getting a player. Prospects that aren’t agostino that they had a year or two watch develop and had a decent pro scout read on, yeah that would be ideal.

Sorry, I don't know exactly how the season is going to play out. I do however know how it won't. The Flames won't be a powerhouse team that's a favourite to win....anything. At best, they're a plucky team that sneaks into the playoffs and wins a round. That always seems to be the gola though, so it might be a success in some people's minds.

He won't have a choice, he does not have a NTC or NMC
He is a pending UFA, he could always resign

Are there powerhouse teams any more? Colorado from two years ago was pretty good, but their goaltending was a weakness. They were a division winner this year and were bounced in the first round. Tampa has been good but not great the last couple seasons. I wonder if your expectations are too high for this era in the salary cap. Each team has high priced veterans and tries to fill in with talented youth. The teams that find a good balance seem to make improvements.
Your opinion is probably true on the Flames, but it isn’t a certainty. A couple seasons ago the Flames were amongst the highest favourites to win entering the playoffs. They didn’t, naturally. People that prior off season were also predicting the same thing as you are now.
I thought Dallas was a decent team last summer but I didn’t see them being a divisional team with 108 points and making it to the conference finals.
A lot of things went wrong for the Flames to be a bubble team last year. Could they be better this year with this roster? I think that is certainly the case. They could be middling and not good, which makes the case for a bigger shake up. You may hold the opinion that this team isn’t good as constructed. Some people disagree, including what appears to be management of the team.

I’m not sure our targets should be pending UFA’s who have no intention of signing here.

He is a cap dump asset that the Flames can flip at a later date. Sillenger and the pick are the assets the Flames want.

I like the Sillinger and a pick idea. How about making the third asset one of their Russians- Marchenko or Chinakov?

Columbus seems to be trying to collect Ohio players and prospects.

Sillimger had a tough year last year..but then again he was on the blue jackets...
But I think your on target. I'd want Marchenko. Just for the jersey.

Marchenko and Sillinger would do just fine. Two middle 6 (at this point in time) forwards like that would really reshape thing moving forward. I wouldn't even want a pick with Sillinger and Marchenko as the package.

Columbus just drafted Fantilli as their new #1C. He pushes everyone down the lineup, meaning Kent Johnson is #2C and Sillinger #3. The Lindholm train passed them once the draft was done.
If they are moving Lindholm a contender makes a lot more sense since he could be a low cap hit rental at the deadline.

Yup, I'd want a 2nd, especially if lindy is a sign and trade. I'd want a 1st if they want to send a 1 year cap dump.

They also likely have Texier returning, who can likely still fit in their somewhere.

Is Johnson definitely a Center for them?
Fanitlli-Johnson-Sillinger is an incredibly young center group to go with.
Having a guy like Lindholm to take the tough assignments and be able to shift to RW if the young guys are making at center would likely be a great way to ensure their young players are properly developed without having too much pressure thrown on them right away.

Well there is reports that they might be planning on putting Patrik Laine at Center so I'm not sure its that cut and dry yet in the eyes of the Jackets management.

I completely agree.
Marchenko is going to be a top 6 sniper and has 30+ goal potential and Sillinger could turn into a solid middle six centre.
If ever Columbus wouldn't want to deal both I would rather get Marchenko back as I believe he has more potential.
With Lindholm Columbus is likely to push for the playoffs, I doubt the 15th overall pick will offer a better prospect than Marchenko whereas it might offer someone better than Sillinger but even that I doubt.

Boston was a powerhouse team that got bumped in the first round.
Florida was the plucky team that did it. Went to the finals.
Two years ago the Flames were a powerhouse team, and sure, you can pretend they weren’t if you want, but they got bumped in the second round.
These distinctions don’t really mean anything anymore. You don’t know how the season will go and you don’t know how it won’t. You can’t even predict the playoffs based on the season that just happened. I think anyone with half a mind can look at this team, see the changes and the different variables that really impacted the team last year, and know that this is a team that could be anything. You’re absolutely out to lunch if you’re sitting here in August saying what they won’t be.
