Didn't say there was just stating that a higher quality switch will last longer.

Told me that a high quality switch will do the trick, now 2 years and counting.
I dunno if my Home Depot switch is high quality or not, but after ~4 years it's pretty hit and miss whether it works and it sure would be nice to not have to change it out every 4 years.

Yup. I have to change out the one in the basement yet again. So might as well try one that should last until I die.

We were having issues with our fireplace light switch and the guy got us to change from the low profile switch (linked by Fuzz) to a toggle switch. Apparently the low profile ones have issues with fireplaces whereas the toggle ones don't - something to do with Voltage. We only had that fix about a month ago so no idea about longevity but it fixed the problem.

I need to install a handrail on one of my half stairs going down into the family room (4 level split home), but I don’t want a cheap looking Home Depot special. I’d like to kind of match the banister on the next level up. Any recommendations for a place to shop at?

Windsor Plywood might be worth checking out.

Was gonna say this too, along with Timbertown NE might be able to help. Ask for Bigtime.

Got the switch today:

Pros: Works great.

Cons: I can't fit it into the outlet box.

Doh.

Are you able to set it up with a remote? I like ours because it has a thermostat built in, so basically it stays on until it gets warm wherever you place the remote. Of course, it will be sauna-like between there and the remote, but that's not really too bad.

Yeah, I can easily set up a remote. Problem is that I'd then have a remote.

This might have been the problem but I'm still not entirely sure. Now that things have warmed up and melted a bit I fired up the fireplace tonight to test it out and it is working fine.

Can anyone suggest someone to refinish an oak floor? We put it in about 15 years ago and it's showing its age.

Hatton's Hardwood did an outstanding job for me a few years ago, but may be short on availability for what I assume is being in high demand. Worth a try.

So it looks like our refrigerator is ####ting the bed, can anyone recommend a good brand with ice maker/water? And which would be the best store to buy from that would provide install and take away the old one?

We just used Costco for a washer and dryer. Install and take away was included. Not sure if a fridge install is any more complicated than that though.

The rest of our appliances we got from Jerome's....and paid for installation services. Can't say it was any better or worse than the company that did the installation for Costco.

Ditch the water and ice maker, huge risk to house flooding.

Logged in to say exactly this. They are not worth the risk. Parents place was absolutely wrecked by a line in the fridge that let go.

Manufacturer didn't even use a quality braided steel water line in the fridge, cheap plastic one. And it wasn't a cheap fridge either.

Bought from Canadian Appliance Source when we needed to replace our old one in a hurry. Delivery and takeaway was included. And they had a bunch to choose from that were in stock and available for next day delivery. Price was good too.

Just DO NOT buy a Samsung fridge. Absolute garbage piece of ####.

I bought my new one at Lowes, and it was a good experience with delivery and removal of the goddamned POS Samsung.

We bought a middle-of-the-road Frigidaire Gallery French door with an ice maker in the freezer and water inside the door. I had an issue with the door, but since it was fixed, it has been ok.
