I feel the same way today...and as unlikable as I find her, she has my vote and my money.

The two most important questions in politics: are they corrupt and are they competent. Right now, there's only one mayoral candidate where I can confidently say they are competent and not corrupt - that's Gondek.

Were you supposed to switch accounts before making this post that quotes yourself?

Instead, we have to choose as voters and I'm choosing Myke because he's the front runner among progressives. Myke and Terry will be 1 and 2 but the winner is still up in the air.
I like David and he seems like someone who truly cares. I was leaning towards him mainly because his is the only ward-level content I've seen on the feeds and also because the woman who knocked on my door on behalf of Myke was pretty aggressive.

But I watched the Ward 7 debate that the Sprawl recorded, and Myke seems like a much stronger communicator and all around strong candidate. He seems to be good at taking an issue and framing it in a way that's relatable and easy for people to understand (but also in a way that's clear he's done his homework).

By contrast, both Heather and David seemed to get a bit hung up on the complexities of things.

In particular (this may not be everybody's favourite issue but it makes sense in the inner city neighbourhoods of ward 7), Myke compiled data from various city planning documents and put it all together on a single map with a commitment to fight for protected cycling routes in Ward 7.

This was his final take on the Sprawl's recording (paraphrased):

Quote:
"My big thing is reinvestment in the inner city. We have been severely underfunded for many years. Ward 7 + Ward 8, the two inner city wards, are **the most productive per capita tax wards in the city.** We generate a lot of taxes for the city but right now that money is being scooped out of the inner city to pay for unsustainable neighbourhoods.”
Edit: his reddit AMA was also really good with well thought through answers.

Thanks for digging this up. Myke has my vote now.

I read Myke's AMA earlier and loved that his answers were not only articulate and specific but also actually geared toward his ward. Too many candidates just have these grand statements that are just well out of their scope.

I'm not in Ward 7, plus only in Calgary half the year so might skip out on voting just out of principle, but that's a candidate I'd happily support

Isn’t that called doing what is in the best interest of the city and exactly what we want in politicians.

Electorates often present government with conflicting wants. Like:

* Make housing more affordable.

+

* Keep my taxes low.

+

* Don’t change my neighbourhood.

We elect leaders to make the tough choices necessary to carry out these aims. If enough people hate the choices, the leaders don’t get re-elected.
