His previously playing experience is irrelevant. Ryan would also prefer Calgary. When the cap wizards in Edmonton eventually bury him in the AHL he would sleep in the same bed.
He’s not an excellent bottom 6 player. We both know that.
He’s a replacement level NHL player at best, with diminishing offence. Your statement is nostalgic and hanging on his accomplishments and perseverance as a player.
He is a known quantity who is not getting better. Guys younger & potentially better than him are looking for work late in the summer.
I “might” take him back in an instant in December if the team was flooded with injuries, never in June, and never for two years.
Teams that develop well don’t sign 36 year old castaways like Derek Ryan, they build younger and better options.

So
That leaves 5M to fill 6 roster spots including Kostin, McLeod and Bouchard?
Can’t wait to see them start the season short by 3 spots.
There’s gotta be a minimum roster size according to the cap right?

Stone is made of fine china, no question there. But iirc, vegas was rotating a variety of players through until Stone went down. Wasn't the main reason of why they missed the playoffs (that would probably be losing Stone), but none of it went in their favor.
I'm not a fan of the cap loophole that it is, but it isn't a cheat code like oilers fans are claiming it to be. You have to make the playoffs to begin with and then you are hoping all the chemistry immediately clicks, since you don't have any runway to see how things are going. And I am doubtful any high level player would ever be okay just sitting on LTIR for a whole season (especially if they still want another contract in the future), especially with the possibility is that there is no playoffs or a first round punting and all they did was hurt their career.

TBH, Oilers fans are the last people to complain about the cap loophole. Two names: Smith and Keith.

Considering they would likely send down Holloway and Broberg it would put them at just under 7 to fill out their roster (1 D and 5 forwards would give them 22 on the roster). It's why their fans seem to think they will be in on all sorts of players and deals, because they "have cap space". Considering a few million to Bouchebum on a bridge deal and probably 2.5 or a bit more between their 2 arb-rights RFA's and their actual cap problem comes into focus. They will likely have under 2 million to sign two more players which will stick them right up near the cap and running a short roster. To field a full roster they need a cap dump, and that still just gets them 2 more 1-2 million dollar players. Plus they don't exactly have a ton of assets to move and it's questionable how much of an asset any of them really are.
But if you ask them, teams are lining up for a Ceci or a Yamamoto and they will be able to turn all their underperformers into guys like Konecy and Pesce. You know, with the proven track record of Holland, who could doubt it!

Why send down two guys on their cheap ELCs to replace them with bargain bin UFA signings no likely to be any better?

I love that we are watching the guy taken directly after McPowerplay win a Cup before the powerplay specialist even gets a sniff. Eichel has rounded himself into a great TWO WAY player. Something that prima donna up north will never do because it might cost him a scoring title or two.

Same reason treliving always had old vets. With the veterans at $1MM that’s all that counts against the cap.
Player on ELC at $900k also has performance bonuses which factor into to cap penalties for future years. It’s easy to say let’s the kids play but you better have a cap structure to absorb the bonuses in future years if they hit them

I have seen one or two assert that Vegas beat the Oilers on a PDO heater.
