I found "The Whale" to be very depressing and at times hard to watch. Still there was a powerful message being taught as the movie progressed. The ending was sad and yet he was able to fix all his relationships. Brendan Fraser should get Best Actor at this yeas Academy Awards

Love and Monsters was decent. Sappy at times, but the graphics made it worth it.

M3gan was great fun. Not particularly scary but makes up for it in other ways (including a tik-tok dance before she kills someone). Wont be for everyone but if you're looking for a fun campy horror film give this one a watch.

I loved it. But couldn't help but wonder how much more fun it could have been if they hadn't gone for the PG-13.

Watched Bullet Train this past weekend. I really enjoyed it.
Aaron-Taylor Johnson & Brian Tyree Henry (Tangerine & Lemon) were standouts to me.

It's been the rumor for awhile that ATJ is the next bond and bullet train sold me on him

Man speaking of that, they really need to get the 'next Bond' show on the road. It's already been a year and a half since No Time to Die but that was a severely delayed release due to Covid -- it was supposed to be out in April 2020. They've already had 3+ years to think about who was going to be next, what's the hold-up?

That's hardly a big deal. There were 6 years between Dalton and Brosnan, 4 between Brosnan and Craig.

Just finished Infinity Pool with Alex Skarsgard and Mia Goth. Pretty solid psychological horror/thriller. It is extremely twisted and some parts are pretty hard to watch. It's a 3.5/5 for me.
I am very impressed with a lot of the horror films that have come out recently including The Menu, M3gan and obviously looking very forward to Beau is Afraid. It finally seems like we're in an era where horror movies can be scary again without cheap jump scares and loud noises.

The Firestarter remake was bad and nonsensical. And why does Stephen King hate cats?

We're actually coming into an era where horror films deserve award consideration
The genre has had some of the better performances recently. They're also the riskiest and most creatively written films out there nowadays. Especially the features that A24 are pumping out.

Horror have often always deserved awards consideration. Organizations like The Acadamy generally have a genre movie aversion which blows. Occasionally you'll get a breakthrough like THE EXORCIST or more recently GET OUT. But even Peele's follow up in US was likely even too much horror compared to GET OUT.

It also wasn't nearly as good, so there's that.

Disagree. The screenplay may be stronger in GET OUT, but I think Peele's direction is better in US. But to each their own. I still think my point stands. And once you're in the Oscars club you're work is more inclined to get recognized for better or worse (often worse).
And it's not like the Oscars are generally actually about merit anyway.

^I found some of the performances in US to be awful. Nyongo was fantastic, but I didn't love the kids in it, and Elisabeth Moss was downright comical. That's a directing flaw as far as I'm concerned.

Babylon is a lot of fun to watch, holy crap. Literally from start to finish I had a blast watching it. Love pretty much everything about the film. The scenery, dialogue, performances, and especially the sound. Not often a film keeps me interested for 3+ hours, but this definitely did.
