It was fantastic for Avatar IMO. I had no idea it was going to happen and it was very immersive.
The side walls are of course not showing the main picture, it is as if you’re looking out the passenger window of your car. For scenes where they are moving through landscapes etc. it was cool.
Yeah I think it was D&D I saw that in. NOT advertised as that as I would have avoided it if I could.. I have to sit further back since after having serious vertigo what, 7 years ago now I still can get some disorientation in movies if I sit too close. So didn't appreciate the surprise surround view.
The worst part is since the walls aren't screens they have to project bright, which washes out the main screen.. and if they're used in all the best sequences then all your best sequences are washed out and look like a crap.
Fortunately it was off for the majority of the movie so I was able to deal with it, but even if I didn't have vertigo I would still avoid it. If I want IMAX I'll go to a freaking IMAX.

Season 2 of What If...? Is pretty good. Some are excellent. My alternate titles/scores/reviews:
1. Nebula: Blade Runner - 9/10 - Felt like a an episode of GOTG with an alternate team.
2. Avengers '88 - 8/10 - Could have been part of the main timeline. Cool to see some vintage Avengers in action.
3. Hulk Hogan With Avengeance - 6/10 - Meh. Christmas. Die Hard references.
4. Pod Racer: Sakar - 7/10 - Some cool scenes and good humour.
5. Captain Carter: Hydra Stomper - 7/10 - Pretty formulaic. Again Captain Carter and Captain America basically mirror each other.
6. Kahhori - 10/10 - Very cool new character. Apparently the episode is in the Mohawk language, also very cool.
7. Hela and the 10 Rings - 8/10 - A fun smashing of the cosmic/mystical stuff. Voice cast stood out in this one IMO.
8. Marvel 1602 - 7/10 - None of this makes any sense. A lot of it was very fun. Some of it was very dumb (Rodgers Hood). Favreau is amazing, obviously having a blast.
9. Avengers: Strange World - 8/10 - Pretty much completely outrageous. Laughably so at points. But it's a lot of fun and I'm glad when let off the leash, things get pretty crazy in Marvel-land.
Overall this was a fun series. I'd say I probably enjoyed it more overall than season 1, but season 1 was a bit more "connected" and sort of made a bit of sense? The ending of this one got way out of control but I liked it. Lots of returning cast members to voice their parts. Recommend if you liked the first and enjoy Marvel in general.

I liked it a lot more than season 1,
I think partially prior expectations, because they went in with a similar format, in my head cannon, the Hela at the start of 8 was the same character as the 10 rings Hela, and the universe with Happy Freak is the one where Cap hit's the time stone. I'm thinking it all comes together a little bit better than we saw.
I've for a while wondered if they could do a story where in the 70s, Howard Stark, Ant Man, Wasp, Goliath, Captain Bradley, not sure who else was active at the time could team up on a small scale. I guess we got a little bit of that.
One thing I just don't know if Marvel can do / has the will power to do, is stop introducing characters for a while and stop leaning on their old characters. Let Tony Stark and Steve Rogers rest, give us some follow up on Tiamuts head or Shan Chi or Blade and the Black night, or one of the threads you've left lingering. Kahhori was undoubtedly the best Marvel content this year, but I also think in the long run if they can't gain a little bit of focus on the pieces they already have on the table they'll continue to struggle.
What if? feels like a wasted opportunity to experiment with different animation styles. Would love to see every episode in a different comic inspired style instead of this bland unmemorable animation.

I skipped over episodes 3-5, based on cheezy titles and my lack of appreciation for too much Marvel humour. Seems like I made the right choice. Might go back and watch #5.
Just finished What if S2. Enjoyed the mix of some interesting concepts and some silly concepts they had fun with. Surprised at the quality of the voice talent and nice to get more Rockwell and Blanchett in the MCU.
Probably a step below S1 as the conclusion didn’t come together as nicely. Was expecting a big team up again and didn’t like how Strange became a villain after his previous character development.
Kahhori was my favourite episode. Managed to pull off a compelling origin story and build a universe in only 25 minutes, while making good use of the animation medium with some nice visuals.
Captain Carter vs the Hydra Stomper was my least favourite. Is basically the Captain Carter version of Captain America: TWS. Couldn’t help constantly comparing to the original which is the best written MCU film filled with exciting twists. This version feels like a rushed shallow adaptation that was ultimately unnecessary.

The Flash wasn't nearly as bad as I was led to believe. The story was relatively tight for a movie that fits into a multi-franchise universe, it was light, the multiverse concept was simple enough, lots of the jokes landed. 3.5 stars.
One of the biggest things going against it was Ezra Miller. Christ he is annoying. Stoner brah Flash takes an already unlikeable character and dials him up to maximum volume.
Weak villain. Does Zod have to be in every DCU movie?
I just finished the first book over Christmas and am working my way through the second ATM, but that sure looks a lot different than the book and I'm not sure how I feel about it. Although the floating scene in the trailer looked badass and I know exactly what they are referencing there.
Starting in December I re watched LOTR and then followed it up with The Hobbit trilogy.
Man did those LOTR movies ever hold up well. There are a few scenes that you're like ya ok that aged, but overall the look and feel of those movies is as good today as it was back then.
Then I got to The Hobbit, which I hadn't re watched since they came out initially. I actually felt like the first one was really good. I liked the second one. The third one is a mess. But one constant in it was Martin Freeman. He did such a good job as Bilbo.
I also felt my first play through all the side stuff from the expanded lore with the quests to Dol Guldur were a waste of time. But having just come off watching the LOTR trilogy it actually was great context, and a convenient way to bring back some beloved characters and give them a bigger role.
I also felt like the Dwarves were very generic in the first watch, but this time through I was actually able to pick them out more and remember actually who is who.
Overall I think The Hobbit movies were better than I initially thought they were, and quite enjoyed this session. I also understand there is a whole part of the documentary talking about how LOTR had years of pre production before a camera was even turned on. Where as The Hobbit was literally being re written as it was shot.
One producer described it as laying the tracks as the train is moving. I wonder what he could have accomplished with the proper time frame and resources like he had with LOTR. Pretty impressive given the situation he was in.

No Way Home
Across the Spider Verse
GoTG 3
The Suicide Squad
Honorable mention Snyder JL.. but only out of pity. Lol.
Here's my top 5 for the 4-5 years preceding these movies...
Avengers: Infinity War
Avengers: End Game
Logan
Captain America: Civil War
Thor: Ragnarok
Honorable mention Black Panther.
But there are also some real lemons in those years to like Fantastic Four and Justice League.. Honestly after the top 5 it drops off real quick. Sensing a bit of a trend here.

GoTG3
Spiderverse
No Way Home
Shang-Chi (probably lost in the rest of the MCU but it was legitimately good, and Simu Liu is a treasure)
The Suicide Squad (Anything that gave birth to John Cena as Peacemaker can't be that bad)
I just realized I've never watched The Batman, I should probably do that.
