Dude thinks he's Ryan Leslie??
Would be super weird for a team President to tease a trade but its also weird for him to tease anything really so who knows.

I don't have the twitter thing but it looks like he posted similar on June 26th? Did something happen then when he did that?

There have been a few seasons where we seem to have a player that gets hurt in preseason or holds out for more $$ and they start the year behind the 8 ball and play like garbage.
Looks like it’s going to be zary this year.

Looks like he has a history of it. March 7th he had the eyes and that’s when they traded for Mikko. It appears we might have some movement today. Let’s just hope it’s involving the flames and huge over payment for Andersson.

Late to the discussion but on signing Zary to a long-term extension is risky, but as long as his knee is good, I would do it. The salary cap is rising substantially, so I would do a 7-8 year deal now. The Sens did that, and some of the guys did get injured and/or under-performed a bit, but I think it will pay off for them as well, at least overall.
At any rate, I would rather gamble on a long-term deal on a young guy who shows promise that he is going to live up to that deal, than to gamble on an older vet that he can maintain that production. If Zary had concussions issues, or some kind of repetitive injury on a body part that didn't seem to heal, then that's a different conversation, and I wouldn't be so willing to gamble then. It appears that Zary's knee was 100% in both cases after the injuries, so if that is really the case, I would put a long-term deal on the table. 8 x 7? I would bet he outperforms that in the long-run.
I don't view Zary (or Coronato) as core pieces, but that's not a core contract either. That's going to be the rate for good supporting players. If Zary (and Coronato) develop into core pieces - which may happen - then it becomes a huge bargain. There is risk there, but I would do it.
Pospisil is entering the last year of his deal this season. You have to make room for some young kids coming up, but I would prefer Pospisil gets re-signed. I think he adds some grit, speed and solid decision making, plus he can really disrupt the opposing team and get into their heads. I also remember Weegar's quote about Pospisil, and how he couldn't stand him at first because of how hard he plays during practices, but how he learned to love him and appreciate him for it. I think Pospisl adds to the culture of this team as a hard-working team more than he is given credit for, not to mention how hard he trains in the off-season. Yes, concussion issues.. but I would be happy with extending him another 2 years, and up until 4 years.

LOL. Jump to conclusions much?
He isn't hurt for preseason, and there is no reason to think he'll be holding out to start camp.

And it starts by saying Kadri would waive for Montreal….interesting…. Then says Montreal has no interest.

Yes, it is a good strategy to bet on the young guys, and now is the best time ever to do it, as the cap is increasing significantly.
They locked up Bahl and Coronato, and should do Zary as well - the risk is pretty low and the cost is not at all crippling, even if one of them doesn't work out.
I would offer Zary up to, or a little less than, Coronato money. And either 6 or 8 years (so they aren't coming due the same year).
8 X $6.5
6 X $5.75
2 X $3.5
Those are the choices I would give him.
But the optimal contract here is long term.

I'm not offering Zary as much as Coronato. Yes Zary outperformed Coronato at the start of the year, but while Zary was hurt Coronato produced better than Zary ever has.
I do like offering term to Zary but it has to be discounted to make sense for the Flames. That's the tradeoff, giving term to a player with career high of 34 points requires some concession IMO. I can see Zary looking to post a big season before committing to term. I hope that is his mindset.

Coronato has had better numbers to date, no question. But IMO, when healthy and playing well, Zary has looked like the better overall player - I think he has more upside than Coronato. More risk as well, and that's the tradeoff. But if he progresses as expected ANY long term deal will look like a homerun decision.

I still think if you can get him for 6+ years at $5.5 to $6M then that's the right move.
Logan Stankoven just got $6M and he has 37 points as a career high too.
Connor Garland is a career 45-50 point guy, and he just got $6M.
With a rising cap a guy who puts up 45-50 points is going to get $6M. Zary averages a p/pg rate of 42 points per 82 games.
If you can get him for 7 years at $5.5M to $6M that would be a very shrewd signing IMO, even if he never progresses past being around a 0.5 point per game guy it's barely an overpayment.

I would be surprised if the Flames disagreed with you. The more probable scenario in my opinion is that Zary wants shorter term for the same dollar figure. The question is what is the highest you would go for the Flames on AAV on a 6 to 7 year contract? Similarly, what is the highest you would go for the Flames on AAV for a 2 to 3 year contract if Zary won't sign for longer?
