Question: so on a force play like that, doesn’t matter if the runner on third scores before the outs are recorded.

But if Cavan had gone to first originally, and they got the player who was headed to second stranded in a run down, would that run from third then count if he reaches the plate before the third out is recorded?

That is correct. The run would've counted.

Biggio making sure he got the tag rather than heading to first and throwing to second, which he would've had time for, was such a high IQ play. Just what the doctor ordered.
