I've been saying for a while that I think Ekblad is the one to drop if there is no trading down. I just don't think his ceiling that attractive to the top 3 teams. Could be wrong but just a feeling I get. Florida really needs a sublime point getter, I think they draft Reinhart. Buffalo could also use more skill up front, Bennett. Edmonton desperately needs size at forward, Draisatl. Would be perfect for the Flames.
Maybe just wishful thinking on my part.

Hard to see Ekblad as a fit for Florida? What?
Maybe only because they're impatient, but they need a strong piece on their D badly in comparison to their forwards.

Of note, all three writers have the same group of 5. Dal Colle has been slotted in that 5th spot for some time now. I wonder if that's where he gets drafted? After #5 all three lists go off on different paths.

Here was an interesting discussion with Corey Pronman (hockey writer for ESPN, does scouting all the time) where he talks about the talent of some of the top-end picks. They ask him who he thinks people should stay away from in the top 10 and he says Ritchie, since he has played in the OHL 3 years and just hasn't shown an ability/willingness to consistently dominate.

I find Pronman to be a bit off sometimes. Trying to remember some of his predictions last year which I thought were odd (and so far look to be wrong) but my memory is failing me.
Does anyone have his list from last year?

Even The Hockey News is setting up the Oilers to be a punchline.

So what's the more likely scenario for Treliving to take anyone outside the top four, if Bennett or Draisaitl slide to us? Like a few others have stated, it's not that I would be appalled ending up with Ritchie, it would just be disappointing to have gone through a year like we did to end up with someone who could go a few spots later in the draft.
So basically I hope Treliving/Burke's preference is still on the board is available or at number four, and if he's not then they should try and trade down to #8 and hope Ritchie is available then (rather than take him too early).

TSN has a video clip up on Craig Button and why he has Jake Virtanen so low (43rd) versus Central Scouting's 6th:
"I've watched Jake play over 40 times the last 3 and a half seasons. To me: exceptional skater (maybe the best skater in the draft), excellent shot. I just don't see him translating that into a top-6 forward. I see him as an NHL player, maybe along the lines of a Raffi Torres."
He also clarifies his stance by saying he believes he'll go early in the draft anyways because there are enough teams that think he will be a top-6 forward, but he doesn't agree with that, thus the lower ranking.
Also talks about why he has Travis Sanheim so high in comparison to CS (8th versus 53rd).
"All Travis Sanheim did over the course of the season was he got better, and better, and better. I'll tell you who he reminds me of in his draft year: Ryan McDonagh."

I know bleacher report has some dumb articles. But in their latest mock draft they have Richie going at 14.

More Pronman:
"Legit. Would say 50% shot he's their guy. RT @jeremygale: @coreypronman think the Oilers interest in Draisaitl is legit or smoke screen?"

Then those scouts should not have a job. Ekblad has much more offensive awareness than Schenn ever showed. I don't see the comparison at all.
