Sox sign Bregman. $40M AAV for 3 years. High on the AAV, but a reasonable term.

Last year I had lower expectations for the team. I think they are a better team this year but they are still going to be fighting for 3rd in the division IMO.

I just hope they are in wild card contention during the dog days of summer, with only the CFL being the other sport I follow during this time, I need entertainment nightly, lol.

Another bat or two would have been nice to start the season. I like the rotation, the bullpen is still not great, the bats are average. Good thing is that they have time to make more trades/moves as the season progresses. One more big bat could make a massive difference. And yes, sign Vladdy please. They will overpay but whatever.

The Soto signing further solidified that the market for star players has gone up. Bregman to this point was at most a $27M/season player. Now look at Vlad, who is far younger and a better player currently. The guy is going to get paid. If the Jays don't think he's worth $45M/season, they have to trade him.

With the deferrals it’s valued at $30 mil a year in present day $$

Thanks, that wasn’t reported initially. He turned down 6 years at $156 from the Astros for 3 years at $90. Time will tell but he has already been declining.

The deferrals help minimize the tax differences.

According to Bob Nightingale the Cubs offered 4 years at 120M and the Tigers offered 6 years at 171.5M.

Boston is deep with young talent he wants to win.

Cubs deep too Tigers too. Jays not on that level for youth currently

Am I the only one who is having Deja Vu back to last year? I really am having a hard time getting excited for this season as Jays haven't done anything and can any team really challenge the Dodgers?

The AL actually feels pretty wide open to me.

In the NL it feels like Dodgers-Mets/Phillies NLCS is inevitable. (Still makes no sense to me that the Phillies helped the Dodgers get Sasaki)

But in the AL who is really better compared to last year.

Yankess: Lost Soto and Torres, Add Fried maybe deeper overall but Soto is a big loss.
Red Sox: Added Bregman but not much else
Baltimore: Lost Burnes and Santander
Tampa Bay: Feels like there are in one of their down cycles
Toronto: Lots depends on if rotation and Bo can bounce back.

Guardians: Didn't do a whole lot positively
Royals: On the playoff bubble
Tigers: Should be on the upswing
Twins: Lost some decent pieces
White Sox: Will be terrible

Astros: Lost Bregman, Tucker, Kikuchi, Verlander
Mariners: Pretty quiet offseason as a whole
Rangers: Lots of moves, probably a little better
Athletics: Will be bad
Angels: Better but probably still bad

The American League feels wide open to me and could be lots of teams battlng for the playoffs in that 85-90 win range but outside of maybe the Yankees I don't see a dominating team that's going to run away with things.

The rotation is the biggest reason to have some hope. But in order for pitching to carry the team to contention, they'll need to also have a solid bull pen. Which is always seemingly a wild card. But if the bull pen isn't good - the season won't be.

Bullpen had bad luck last year. It can't go much worst. Rotation imo will be better too. If one is better other will be better. Compound effect due to workload. We hace more depth too. Plus bo Santander... we will be betfer

We will make it interesting

The AL should be bad which opens up the wildcard

However the AL east should be very good - Boston has a ton of youth and Balt and Yankees will be the top 2 teams on the AL most likely

Other divisions will get to feast of their poor divisions so it’s an uphill battle for sure

There's a real chance the Jays could finish just barely over .500 and still be last place in the AL east.

Fangraphs projections has the AL East standings as follows:

Yankees 87W
Red Sox 85W
Orioles 83W
Rays 83W
Jays 82W
