When the video starts there is a counter in the bottom left
Usually says
Ad 1 of 2, (then a time count).
Next the that is a little icon, it looks like a lower case i in a circle. Hit that and it allows an option to stop watching the ad, then you get two other prompts (I can't recall what they are, but the answer to skip ads are obvious).
Not sure if that helps or not.
There are a few instances when it doesn't let you do this process.

Oh, the "I don't like this ad" option or whatever.
With all the information they have on you to personalize ad targeting, if you keep opting out of stuff they think you might be interested in, eventually all you're gonna be stuck with is Amy Schumer Tampax ads.

Do content creators have the ability to pin ad locations in the video?
Breaking for an ad mid word, mid sentence is one of the dumbest things ever.

I think they do because on some channels, the ads pop up in logical spots and never mid-sentence, but on other channels, the mid-sentence breaks are frequent. It always seems to be the same channels that are good and bad, so I don't think it's just luck.

I'm so glad my Android butt had a Google Play Music subscription (now YouTube Music). Just an extra couple bucks/month for YouTube Premium, no commercials is glorious. I just wish it didn't take me almost 3 years of having it before realizing that's all it took..

I've never made a video long enough to be monetized or anything (plus a minimum of 1,000 subs and certain number of views), but I have to imagine that the breaks are likely inserted by some sort of algorithm that tries to detect a sentence break, jump cut, or scene change (ie: on a car video, changing the camera from in-car to outside). I've never seen an option to manually suggest ad-break spots.

Yeah, I use this term a lot, specifically in the context of discussing with clients eligible medical expenses.
You can only claim expenses that were 'out of pocket' as in, not covered by any other plan, subsidy or insurer, only the amount that you personally paid out of your own after-tax dollars.
Its short, to the point and people understand what it means.
I find it quite useful actually.

There are YouTube alternative apps for Android that block out ads automatically. I still have a working YouTube Vanced, but I believe it's no longer getting updates. There are definitely some other options though and I haven't seen an ad in years.
My Samsung TV on the other hand is a pain. I tried following guides to change my DNS settings and to block specific domains on my router but they still come through. Apparently buying a Firestick or something similar allows you to just install a YouTube app on that which completely blocks out ads. I think I'll have to go that route as it's a huge pain currently.

I was a big YouTube premium user for years, $12 for YouTube music plus YouTube premium together was always a good deal. But lately youtube has gone a little nuts with striking content it doesn't like and that's effected a lot of my favourite history channels so after many years I just cancelled it

Sorry, $12 per month? That... does not seem like a good deal to me.

Spotify's algorithm and social features are much better than Youtube music's.

I suppose that's true. It's just that the vast majority of the content you're getting for that money is also available for free, without piracy or anything. It just makes it less annoying.

A closet nazi or a closet nazi?
Like are you saying he’s secretly nazi who liked hitler and is a white nationalist or that he’s really anal about making sure all his shirts are hung up facing the same direction and the sheets are folded neatly?

Definitely not the latter, but as for the former, you know, with Hitler, the more I learn about that guy, the more I don't care for him.

The challenge with YouTube ad-blocking is you can really only do it on a computer. YouTube's ads are served through the same CDNs that serve their videos, so a PiHole or Adblock DNS won't help you when watching YouTube through a native app on a TV, STB, or media player.
|
FYI, Google doesn't do any sort of region checking when you signup for YT premium, other than your IP address. So if you have access to a VPN, there's nothing stopping you from subscribing from a country where it's much cheaper, like Argentina or Turkey

My best video is up to 45,000 views. I sold the rights to Jukin Media and they send me a cheque every now and then. I've made $124 USD off that video so far, hah.
Actually, before Jukin bought the rights Yahoo! paid me a $50 USD Visa gift card to use it on their homepage.
The video does best in Brazil for some reason.

I just use Amazon music given that I have a prime membership anyway and my smart devices are all Alexa based and I order stuff on Prime anyway (even though it's much worse than it used to be). And that's $100 a year.
I guess related gear grinder, it just seems like every service is worse than it was five years ago. Netflix, obviously worse. Youtube won't cut the crap with the ads, on top of the other shady stuff they do. Amazon is just loaded with knockoff Aliexpress garbage. Major car manufacturers are adding subscription fees for heated seats. Major studio video games are mostly glorified slot machines with a bunch of unfinished content that you have to pay extra for. These are all small things but they all seem to be following a trend of backwards progress - deliberately getting worse to try to squeeze a few more bucks out of everyone.
