How is NJs cap set up?

Imagine if they traded for Tkachuk and signed Gaudreau lol

Like I said back in January, and I was right, they should have told Gaudreau he had to sign up until a week or so before the deadline and if he wouldn’t they should have traded him then. Make an internal deadline don’t give the player 100% of the leverage / power in the negotiations. I got ridiculed on this site for saying that then, but it is looking like it would have been the better long term play but worse short term play. At least he got us to round 2 so it wasn’t all for nothing.

Regardless of the outcome of the season and regardless of whether Gaudreau stays or goes, trading him before TDL would have been a terrible, horrible and frankly embarrassing decision. The outcome of the season and whether he stays or goes has no bearing on that decision.

That would be amazing if you think about it. If one of those picks/prospects was a Tkachuk on an ELC you would have a great player AND more cap room plus whatever else. That way y9u old keep gaudreau and upgrade other areas with the available cap space.

OR

We could keep this Tkachuk, not be able to afford to upgrade the roster and lose him to free agency as soon as next year.

It’s not that crazy of an idea, and assuming they alter their goaltending situation would put them into a heck of a spot going forward.

J. Hughes, Gaudreau, Tkachuk, Hischier, Mercer, L. Hughes, Hamilton.

They’d be a force.

2022 1st (#2) + Alexander Holtz would be a nice way to kick-off the next wave of Flames.

Would they? Sounds like a midget team

Anytime you have the opportunity to add two of the top 5 wingers in the league you do it, especially with the pool of young assets they have.

It’s not that difficult to load up your depth with large sized players if that’s what you feel you need.

Also Hischier is 6’1”, Hughes is 5’11” - combined they’re 1” shorter than Lindholm/Backlund. Mangiapane Vs. Mercer? Mercer is 2” taller. Not sure how their top-six would be any smaller than ours was…

Yep, you're right. They are all midgets.

After Sutter was announced as a Jack Adams finalist, Treliving said that when Darryl took the job, it wasn't the first time Tre had picked up the phone to try and get him back in the coaching chair. This aligns with other reports that Tre tried to hire him after Peters was fired.

Darryl then confirmed that was the case, and added that he decided to come back now because he was watching a bunch of hockey over Covid and felt the Flames were falling behind other teams in the division and the leauge, and that's the reason he came back.

^ I don’t know what to feel about that

Is Tre’s secret to success knowing a HOF coach intended to retire in Viking, enjoying the nhl broadcasts with Alberta cable providers, then pretty much irritating him out of retirement with a frustratingly poor level of incompetence behind the bench?

Long game passive aggressive wizard mastery indeed

Should Tre’s nickname be the Wizard or the Mom

Is this a legit rumour? They are talking about just this on 960 right now.

Jesper Bratt too, almost a PPG scorer last season.

I don’t see how NJ can afford both Johnny and Chucky who will want 10-11M each. They have Hughes at $8M, Dougie at $9M, Hischier is at $7.5M it would be way too top heavy.

When you read what the Devils are after they want Tkachuk. They want an elite winger to pair with Hughes but I think they would prefer someone with size. If they can’t make a trade and Johnny gets to free agency they will definitely chase him because he is an elite talent but I think Chucky is what they need.

I really want to keep Tkachuk but I don’t see him taking discounts and the QO to UFA piece is concerning. I would rather sell high than be in a spot where we lose him for nothing or he becomes a rental vs a RFA who a team can get for 8 years

They wouldn't give up Bratt, I would ask for 2023 1st instead. If they don't figure out goaltending, they won't be good

If they want Tkachuk I'd ask for both 1st's. Greedy but that's what I'd ask.

Sorry, thats what I meant: instead of adding Bratt to the package listed above, I would add 2023 1st.

I hope he signs just so we don't have to endure everyone trying to decipher each individual 'insider' report where they all essentially say they have no idea what is happening.
