Im thinking about another threat to take my services to Telus if they don't keep my special promotion package.

I'm thinking the same thing, but what is Telus offering that will keep Shaw's pricing down? They were offering the "Triple Play" this time last year that was something like $10/month each for phone, internet and TV. What are they offering now, besides a free X-Box?

The deals both companies offer are trash. These bundles are a bunch of bull####. Why not give me a list and let me create my own list, instead of making junk ass bundles with 15 channels 13 of which I could care less about.

Its so damn restrictive.

Most of what is packaged together is a CRTC mandate. Blame the government.

Very little of what is packaged together is a CRTC mandate. The only channels that you must have are CBC and Radio-Canada, local and regional channels, the province's education channel, and CPAC.

Certain channels are MUST carry and others can only be offered if the subscriber is subscribed to certain other channels.

On hold with Shaw and no call back feature for 1:01:29. I've heard Music Box Dancer 14 times I think.

The REAL problem with telecommunications in Canada USUALLY resides with the CRTC and it's demands on companies.

You think somebody wouldn't have jumped at the opportunity to offer the ability for customers to choose exactly what they want? That would be worth a friggin fortune. Between the CRTC and networks that own multiple channels and thus require bundling of their channels, it's impossible.

At the same time, I'm sure there is some under the table colluding going on ala the cell phone industry. We know dang well they collude when you look at their plans and they are almost identical. It's like an unspoken agreement to keep prices high. I know I won't personally have TV at my place because all I need is the internet. You're forced to get a billion channels just to get TSN/Sportsnets. I'm not going to pay $45 a month just to have live hockey.

Anyone here work for Shaw? I need clarification. I downgraded from the full phone service to phone lite and the CSR told me that anything outside of the town I was in was now long distance. I live in High River and only call calgary, okotoks, airdrie so I need to know where it states this and why

From a TELUS perspective, calling calgary or airdrie from high river is not long distance. But Shaw may have other regulations on the their long distance network.

Thats what I figured, I just did a customer chat and this guy said anything that requires a "1" first is long distance which makes sense, but nows thats 2 that says it is LD and 1 that says it isn't . . .

Finally after a summer of my Pace PVR box not working shaw is coming out. Called last week first appointment is Sept 13th. This company is getting ridiculous I need to start planning some way to not pay full price in October or cancel all together when my retention price ends. Shaw must be having major problems or down on staff because every time I call wait time is 2 hours plus

A colleague of mine has had similar experience with call times and appointments. He was trying to work from home over the weekend but had problems with his internet connection. It was intermittent at best. He waited on hold one time over two hours and another time he was supposed to get a callback that never came. The next available tech to come to his house and take a look can't make it for another two weeks. For him, it's to the point that he's looking at Telus and is just about ready to jump ship.

Did they not cutback a massive amount of people? Shaw is awful.

They cut back middle managers and stuff, zero tech support people.

They just are losing a lot of TSRs since they are putting a sales quota that these people do no like - big suprise a tech not wanting to be a sales person!

My wife recently left the employ of Shaw and a few days later she heard from a friend they they had broke the 1000 people on hold at one time barrier...

Now the long time on service calls, has something to do with them pushing service back until Sept and prioritizing new installs before the end of the fiscal year. An employee leaked a memo stating something like this on another forum, but I cant find it for the life of me. Maybe digitalhome or avsforum?

I expect that situation to resolve it self in the next couple weeks, but still not cool to prioritize new customers while giving the old ones the shaft, but I guess in reality all companies do that with their promo's etc.

That's ridiculous. I'm glad I've had no problems with Shaw since I changed my plan and bought a new PVR. What are the wait times with Telus like?

FYI, for those who aren't on Shaw but looking to switch there's a great 3-year promo going on featuring their new 'Gateway' PVR system.

http://www.shaw.ca/gateway/offer/

Of course existing customers aren't eligible (why reward loyalty?), so I'm looking to switch to Telus. Does anyone have any tips for getting the most out of Telus? Their current promo is a free HP laptop and PVR rental when signing up for three years. I tried negotiating some additional extras, but the best he would do was throw in a free box rental for my second TV. I'm hoping to get a bit of a reduction or some extra programming credits, but had no luck last night. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm teetering on the edge too - I've spent two evenings in a row for an hour on hold only to give up - what happened to the callback options?
