Okay, that's fine but it wasn't the conversation we were having. I like talking about dream cars, too. Here's mine FWIW:

NSFW!

But there was a conversation going on with an aside about affordable summer toys. So your budget of $50K makes no sense in that context.

And if you don't think Mustangs are fun to drive - particularly from a cost:fun ratio, which is the segment in which they fight - then I think you're going to have to back that up a little if you really want to talk cars. I get not wanting one. They're a bit "banger" if you care about how you're perceived in that way, but on the other hand they never fail to put a smile on somebody's face who likes driving cars.

I had an '87 fox and that thing was hilarious. Smoke shows sound like the lamest way to spend five seconds and a liter of gas until you do one. I'd take people for rides in that car, do a smoke show and have them laughing their heads off. It sounds like you're in the middle of a thundercloud when you're car is just sitting there with smoke billowing out of the tires, the thing's vibrating like mad and yet your not going anywhere. Again, I know it sounds stupid and looks stupid to a lot of people on the outside, but that is a type of fun that can't be had in a CX5 or whatever crossover it is that you have.

If you didn't have fun driving a Mustang, it was because you were not driving it the right way. If you just toodled around then yeah, they're not that special. It's never fun moderately accelerating from a green light, rounding a merge in a tame way, etc. no matter what you're driving. The fun in a Mustang is using that light ass end, RWD and horsepower/gearing to do things that regular cars can't.

And that fun is available at a price that is accessible to a very high percentage of people compared to a lot of the cars we've been seeing over the past few pages in this thread, including your RS6 and your FX. I'm sure cruising on a yaht is super fun, but I doubt I'll ever do it. Ripping around on a jetski is also fun, and I do that every summer. When something fun is accessible to a broader range of people, there is value in that.

Not, "this is a fun performance-oriented machine".
I just picture you with a deadpan face rowing through the gears in my car, fishtailing around corners, top down, kids saying "nice car" (16 year olds love Mustangs and it's fun to see them get excited), dudes asking you to "light 'em up" at a light and then smiling when you do.

Sorry man, you can not like them all you want and I get that (they handle like ####, they sound a bit obnoxious, plastics are cheap, they're a bit rattly and I could go on), but saying they're not fun is where you completely lose me.

Magnetic Flames logo car magnet then?

And anyone saying their vehicle is slow is being silly. The only thing limiting your speed is your foot. A 100 HP car should be able to hit 150 kmph on any highway. Anything with 120 HP+ should be able to break 170 kmph easy. Unless you drive a smart car or a prius with 400 lbs in the back, you're not as slow as you think.

Even then, I leave you with this:

1:06 is the point I'm trying to make.

You can have fun in ANYTHING. Olga the Sienna vs KIRA the Infiniti vs Genie the Genesis or Steady the Sedan. Anything over 115 HP without being horribly weighted down should have enough power for speed IMO. If you can go 100 on Deerfoot, you can do that on most other streets (NOT RECOMMENDED, JUST SAYING)

I know that a '97 Acura 1.6 EL can make it from COP to Kananaskis in 25 minutes with the sunroof down and 100 lbs of gear in the trunk.

Hell, an Odyssey can blast past BMW and Mercs slowly doing speed limit if you want to do that (it's "only" 100kmph). Nothing is "slow". Well... maybe yourself if you think your car is slow.

Jesus Christ. It was a passing comment that a particular car isn't my cup of tea causes you to write a book about how you excited you make 16 year olds and how if I have an opinion that differs from you I was doing something wrong. Talk about defensive.

It's not the car for me, and that's no big deal...

Are you joking around with me? You say something super stupid like "I don't like Mustangs. 950 horsepower RS6s and Infiniti FXs are better" and I engage you as though you are not a complete idiot (my bad) and now this? WTF.

If you didn't want to talk about cars, why did you come in here talking about cars?

I think the disconnect, is a lot of people automatically attach price and cache to driving experience. So untrue.

The Mazda Miata is a great example. Cheap as borsht used, low horsepower, for whatever bizarre reason got the 'chick car' tag and very spartan, yet it is still one of the purest drivers cars you could ever find. It should have been our generations MGB, but somehow it got lost in the shuffle.

When I finally get out of my condo, and into a house, my first project is going to be a totally bespoke, ground up build of a gen 1 Miata, with a blueprinted 302 shoe-horned into it. Some of the ones that have been built, will take-out AC Cobras, and you could probably do a top shelf build for $20-25 k.

I don't like black rims without some sort of accent.

They look like steelies from afar.

Yeah, it's the first thing I do whenever I buy a car. This is my family car/wife's DD.

NSFW!

Always an improvement.

That's why I love buying luxury/sports cars used. You can pick up a mid 2000s Viper or Vette for less than both the F150 and Tahoe.

I picked mine up used, it was waxed more than it was ever driven, for 2/3 (or less) of what a new F150 costs.

Yeah, I love Miatas. It was a sad day when I had to face the fact that I just don't fit in them.

I'm in the same boat man. Just put my factory summers back on the VW this past Sunday. They're an inch bigger than my black winters in the photo, but the blacks look way better. It was a bit of a downer going back to the factory look.

FWIW, Sliver, your earlier post got me seriously thinking of getting a used GT. I never thought they are this cheap. I just checked kijiji; asking prices for a low km black 2005-2008 GT convertibles in excellent shape are all around that $15K range. God, I miss driving a standard transmission sports car! Could be my mid-life crisis though...

I like murdered out cars like that M3. That doesn't bug me at all and it looks great.

I don't like it on other colored cars. Tire blends in with the wheels and it looks cheap to me. Personal preference I guess.

Don't like:
Spoiler!

This on the other hand I don't mind:
Spoiler!

Not crazy about either though. That's just a quick google search.

Cool, I'm so stoked you're thinking about it. I bought mine in December 2011, which I discovered is an excellent time of year to buy a RWD convertible. Desperate sellers and no competing buyers. If you don't get one this summer, look around mid-winter and you might just find a steal.
