Well, theres a first time for everything.
I'm somewhat disappointed about the seemingly arbitrary elimination of 2 longstanding threads in very short order accompanied by little to no explanation, but I suppose that happens. I wouldnt be at all surprised if there were a more logistical explanation.
I hear that there will be a rally and picket line in front of KG's house, all those in favour of bringing down the establishment be there at 10:00am until around 2pm and bring a cooler of beer!! That'll show him how much we detest his fascist policies while hes at work and will never notice us!!
Oh, and CP is a tight knit community that tends to favour extreme extreme reactionist policies that makes an evil woman's PMS outbursts seem downright friendly!!

It was a joke dude.
I would be willing to bet it had more to do with the actual quality of content than a plethora of complaints. Could people have possibly had such a hate for RTT that they frequently opened the thread just to complain?
I stay out of threads I don't like.

Here's a question about CP: I have a little story about last night that I want to post, but I don't know what to do... Do I start a thread about the woman I saw get hit by a car, or do I hijack an existing thread? If only there were a place to post random thoughts.

I must say I hate when people start a thread for a useless story or idea. I find it clutters the main page and then topics get so few replies because stuff gets pushed onto the 2nd page so fast. IMO it stunts discussion. I'm not saying yours isn't worthy, I don't know, I haven't read it yet. I just find there are lots of threads based on a quick story or question that probably could have been shared eslewhere or in a Rando...oh nevermind.
That being said, since CP doesn't want a RT thread I think you pretty much have to start a new thread if you feel the story is worth contributing. It may only get 5-10 responses and die (like the idea would have in RTT) or maybe it'll inspire some great conversation and people will have thoughts and similar stories to share.

Also, for what seems like the first time in forever Jiri doesnt get blamed, who wants to bet that he won the moderation team's exhausting Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament?

I think KevanGuy likes being the bad cop. Ken and photon are good cops, KevanGuy is bad cop. Sylvan and Jiri are absentee cops. I don't know the other cops. Only been arrested a handful of times.

Post it in KG's visitor comment section. Let's make it the new RTT.

I've mentioned this before but feel free to start a Random Thoughts Social Group. Make it invite only. Did the same for driving and the like. I doubt the mods can care if only people that agree to be in the group are included and it doesn't clutter up the main OT page.
I'd start it myself but I don't really care. So long as I get an invite if someone else starts the group.

And get banned? I hate getting banned. Bad Cop banned me once. I'll just lay low here in the new RTT and stop stirring the pot.

That's already happened. I'd join, but I hate the reverse order of posts in the social group forum. It's like driving in England.

I'm just going to voice my opinion. It seems like this would be the place to do it.
I was torn over the Random Thoughts thread. I saw the good & bad about it. I agree chat threads are no good.
I don't like it when things get taken from one thread and carry on to many others. They are funny for a time (a couple threads), but it always seems like someone doesn't know when to stop (calling hoot a ######, Bingo a troll etc come to mind here). Sometimes they are funny after a period of time again (a reference to jolinars extension cords)
What I did like about the random thoughts thread, and it seems like many in this thread are agreeing with me about is it was a place where people could voice their things are they don't think are worthy of a new thread.
Little questions, rants, stories, etc.
I asked a question earlier today about laundry that was quickly answered. google didn't help too much on the subject. CP did.
I wouldn't have posted a new thread for this, but CP came through with the RTT.

What's wrong with a thread being on Page 2? Are people so impatient that they dont even check the second page? People should.
I am glad the RT thread is gone. It was too long, and had too many posts were added in short periods of time. If you didnt check in on it every couple of hours, you were too far behind to take part already.
Once a thread hits dozens of pages, I rarely go back to it because I generally dont have the length of time needed to catch back up. But, if each thought had its own thread, then I could quickly look at the ones I cared about using the title as a filter.
I'd also apply the same logic to the main Fire On Ice section. Threads get so long; I'd rather each "chapter" of a long thread have its own thread.

I kind of agree. I rarely go into threads that are already a couple hundred posts long. It annoys me bacause someone has already said what I want to say. Being a post whore is a tough life.
On the other hand, RTT was a place to talk about everything and nothing at the same time. You never know what you're going to get. I bet that half of CP never opens it because it's just a place where the same usual suspects yammer about inane stuff. I don't know why that would be ended. Unless - maybe - they want us useless posters to stop yammering.

I think the problem was that some RTT posters treated other threats like RTT, and would just keep playing the same inside jokes (some that weren't even that funny in the first place)... a lot of time, just to boost their thanks. Its easier to get thanks for saying something outrageous or one liners that have nothing to do with anything than an actual good post (hockey on FOI, or else in the OT).
Its too bad cause of the short stories, rants or whathave you. I guess there's always twitter. I also think for a large portion of CP, it brought respect because as you talk to other posters in a fun sense, you see posters as real people and you're less likely to go postal on them in something emotional... that comes with being a sports fan.

Has anyone ever actually played Evony? I see the banners for it on here all the time but have never tried it. Does it suck or is it worth checking out?

I briefly played another game like Evony (same company or whatever it is called) that I saw on a banner ad. It too was free so I thought why not. While there were some things, novelties shall we say, at first, I quickly realized that there was a very intense, hardcore element to some of the internet gamers. It actually ruined the experience for me, and since it was the first time I had ever tried something like that, it rang the death knell for games of this sort.

According to this site, I am 10782kms away from Calgary.
Also, I concur that the quality of CP has been down recently, it feels as though there has been a long decline in the quality of the board over the past year or so, though maybe longer.
