Haha yep, although I've been noticing a lot of big fare cuts to Mexico, Los Angeles, and other destinations, not just from Calgary, but from Edmonton & Toronto as well. Even Victoria. All on WestJet.

When is the best time to buy a trip to somewhere South (Mexico, Dominican, etc) in February?

Always hard to predict accurately, but I would guess that if there were any smoking February deals they wouldn't be available until after Christmas, maybe early-mid January.

If you book a flight to Vegas and start looking for a hotel on arrival, what should one expect to pay for a hotel...for two.

My advice is to leave yourself a window of two or three days to depart on and then start checking for last minute deals on expedia.ca, airlineticketcentre.ca, selloffvacations.com, etc about two weeks before then. Sign up for the newsletter on TravelAlerts.ca and it'll probably send you some deals just before you want to leave. That's usually the way to get the best deals.
End of January/early February is one of the best times to go price-wise. It's after the expensive Christmas season and just before the pricey, springbreak partying season.

You won't find a much better deal than $55/night at the Luxor. The $75/night deal at MGM is a pretty good deal, too.

Nice to see that Hawaii does actually go on sale!
I've been watching for about 3 months. We need to go April 7-15 for my Sister in Law's wedding. So far, prices have seeemed to range from $800 to $1100 per ticket for anything not having a HUGE layover. There are 4 of us, so a few hundred on each ticket makes a big difference.
I am holding out waiting for a sale. Do you think I will have to wait right up until two weeks before to get a deal?

just book on expedia. super cheap. Vegas Hotels are not selling out right now, so you would have no problem going that direction and showing up. But I dont think the price will differ from expedia.

Hard to say, I don't think there's much risk in holding out until at least after Christmas though. If there's any movement in April prices I can't imagine it happening until at least January/February.

Dec 12-19
Calgary to Honolulu - $403 USD
Dec 8-15
US Airways/Air Canada

or same dates but to Kahului for $426 USD.

Air Canada is getting in on the fare wars to Vegas.
Some decent prices in December and throughout January.
Calgary to Vegas - $237 USD
Sat - Wed, Dec 12-16 (or 14-17)
http://www.westjet.com
Wed - Sat, Jan 13-16 - $239 USD
http://www.aircanada.com
Fri - Tue, Jan 15-19 - $250 USD
Delta/AirCanada, check http://www.kayak.com
In January, you can basically have your pick of 3-4 night trips for between $237-$280 USD.
Return price, all taxes included.

You can do the same deal from Calgary for $60 more. Sub $300 just sounds much better.

Tack on about $60 if you fly out of Victoria (book through Expedia), which is pretty good since that's about the same price for ferry fees.
