Vancouver will be able to ice a better roster for the rest of the year (hopefully climbing the standings a bit), got back a bigger D with great pedigree, and removed a soft, oft injured, pouty guy who was being asked to be THE leader for the dressing room to follow. Guerin has 1 post season before the drama & circus around walking Hughes to FA dogs the narrative around the team. Can Minny afford two of the leagues most expensive contracts if they don’t have proven success to justify that kind of commitment?
I look forward to the future Canucks Flames rivalry being relevant in conversations around contenders and the potential for the Buium Parekh rivalry to bring out the best in both players.

There was a large contingent that wanted to flip Huberdeau immediately and start from scratch. Probably should have considering we had just lost our two best players since Iginla and our closest shot to sustained playoff dances for the next 10 years.

Go back and read the thread.
90% thought it was a spectacular trade, as long as Huberdeau was signed to an extension. Most considered Huberdeau better than Tkachuk. Treliving was statute bound.

Huberdeau had just set a still standing assist record its really not shocking people thought it would work out better.
One thing though...Potter looks good, Weegar still has big value.

I was whining. Ya the majority of peoplehad that line of thought. I get that hindsight is 20-20 but trading youth and agression for butter soft age didnt sit well with me.

I have a feeling the Hughes trade might accelerate the arms race and we might see a resolution to the Andersson situation sooner rather than later.
If an Andersson trade brings in a young roster forward or two it might also start some dominoes falling with respect to our veteran forwards to make room.

The bigger hurdle to trading them is going to be ownership, if they go on a bit of a mini run, and he's convinced "hey maybe we still have a shot at a wild card", or "our problems are solved, we're playoff bound next season for sure". That isn't even unlikely.

I literally said they could well waive the NMC. But quit acting like they are a non factor, when we know players from this team who've relied on them. They are more likely to veto destinations than outright stop a trade, but that means a worse return, just like when Hanifin limited his destinations.
And we aren't talking one Canuck. Every single player they'd want to trade has one. And it's not like they'd be waiving for a playoff run or two. They'd be waiving to commit to a new team for 6 or 7 years, because they just signed their contracts in the last couple years. So they will have more concerns than short term success. They will want places where they want to live for quite a while.

I mean Im sure somebody hated it...we could trade our first for McDavid and somebody would complain. By all logic that trade should have turned out better. Way she goes.

Ok here you go. the Tkachuk trade thread. I only went through the first 10 pages and out of the 600 posts only 6 posts from 3 posters hated the trade. 1 from SebC, 1 from DaChief and 4 from Ashasx who got roasted, but was in fact 100% correct now... lol
Prob about 20% of the posts were saying the trade was a disaster if we didn't re-sign Huberdeau and Weegar.

Typical CP thread that is about the Canucks, specifically Quinn Hughes trade and it devolves in to a conversation about the Flames. . Because CP forum is the only hockey forum I visit over the past several years I have got rather used to it. So much skepticism and bashing of Quinn in his early NHL years here.
I have watched most, if not all the games Quinn has played since he entered the league. It was apparent from the start that Quinn had something very unique and special. And his production and progression over the past 7 years has been a gift to witness.
Not seemingly the most likely player/defenseman to have a huge impact considering his size. Yet he is up with the best defensemen and hockey players on the planet.
His creativity, play making, skating, edge work are a joy to watch.
Very sad to see him depart the Canucks, yet also wish him the very best ongoing.
I am primarily a hockey fan, rather than a specific fan of any team. Though like everyone else here, can't stand the Oilers. Moved to B.C. as a teen from N.B. so naturally the Canucks became the team I cheered for. I have mentioned it several times previously here that I am also a fan of the Flames. That is my right , as ridiculous as it may appear to Flames fans.
Because I also happen to really enjoy CP for hockey news, banter and so forth…. I put up with endless animosity towards the Canucks and the city and fans in Vancouver over the years of daily reading here. None of which I have anything to do with, as I have lived rurally for many years.
Quinn Hughes is a wizard on the ice. May he win a SC someday. A very unique and rare talent and persona who has been carrying a huge load for his team, fans and franchise.
Unrelated, but a cool tidbit, he happens to share the same birthday as myself, October 14.
