I get why Packer fans are gonna try and be optimistic, what else can they do? But with more time to think that really was a pretty awful choke. Deebo hurt, conditions leveled the playing field, Purdy determined to throw 4+ INTs, at least one dropped pick six and probably two, three first half red zone trips leading to six points, Shanahan having a disaster, even by his standards...you gotta win that game.

Youngest team in the league....pretty simple.
Learning to win is a thing. Look at the Bills...hell look at the Niners.
Try and black cloud it if it floats your boat, but the entire season is nothing but a positive when you consider most pundits had them finishing no where near a playoff spot...then destroying the Cowboys on the road.

Eh, it's the NFL though, you never know when your window will open and how long that window will be open for. Jags were pretty young back in 2017 and look how that went. It was a golden opportunity and they had multiple chances to bury the game, but couldn't do it. I get being optimistic, but there are no guarantees they'll get a better look than this year. It was a choke plain and simple, you'd be saying the same if it was the Bears.

Might not get a better look? This was a team full of young guys who over achieved. They weren't even expected to make the playoffs and instead they knocked off the #2 seed and put a real scare into the #1. Season a success. They didn't have the defense to go the whole way.

Yeah they might not get a better look. Not like the Bucs or Lions are world beaters, Packers already beat the Lions and the Bucs are not that great. They got the worst game the 49ers could possibly play and couldn't beat them. They could meet again next year and the Packers could be better than they were this year, but the Packers could lose badly because the 49ers play their best game instead of their worst. It was right there and they blew it.

Purdy was bad. He was relying on receivers making circus catches and McCaffrey running like a man possessed. Without those two things, it's a Packers blowout.
Sure, if not for the rain (and Deebo injury) it's a very different game. But the conditions nevertheless were what they were and the Packers had all kinds of opportunities to seize control of the game. They let the 9ers hang around and it cost them dearly.

LaFleur definitely has a Kyle Shanahan boogeyman that he can't seem to overcome in the playoffs. But the Packers, Rams, 49'ers, and Lions probably are the 4 best coached teams in the NFC right now. So hard not to see the Packers being in the mix going forward. Packers have to figure out the defence though. This coaching staff has been to the Division round 4 of the last 5 years, so I don't think it compares to a flash in the pan Jags team.
No doubt SCD will be laughing at the 49'ers the day they give Purdy a new contract. He was lucky to survive yesterday. But it's 4 NFC Title games in 5 years now for Lynch and Shanahan with this type of talent at QB. If only they had got the Trey Lance pick right, they might never lose.

Or I'd rather have an actual real chance at something rather than a hypothetical lol. Packers very well might be at the start of something great. Or not. You never know with the future. What I do know is they had a real chance to be one game from the Super Bowl and threw it away.

Don't single me out, we'll all be laughing if they give him Mahomes/Burrow money if this is his current ceiling. But that's the point with Shanahan, his system is such that they can win with replacement level QB play, they weren't too far off winning two Super Bowls with Jimmy G. Purdy is worth keeping at some level, it's just not $50 million+ per year. Purdy on $20 million per is completely fine.

But youll be the first to do it! I keep waiting for the day where Tua or Purdy take say 25 million and admit they're just there to operate the offence with lots of talent. But these being 'Mericans they don't think that way. Although Purdy maybe has an outside chance of being somewhat logical. Play on a winner for the next 8 years making a good salary...or take the mega contract and be out of the league in 3 years Ala Daniel Jones

I too keep waiting for the day we can see a true QB middle class instead of just topping the last guy. Same time I can't really expect these guys to take less considering how brutal and ruthless the league is. What would be more interesting is would the 49ers let Purdy walk if he insists on top dollar. At some point some team will probably take a stand, you just wonder when/who.

Purdy has two more seasons on his rookie deal. By the time they start talking contract I would assume one way or another the 49ers will know his worth by then. IMO he's a product of their offense but I don't mean that as a major slight as in the NFL a QB still needs to make the right reads and put the ball where the receivers can catch it and he's proven to be pretty efficient. His limitations show up when the 49ers are in close games or trailing when he tries to make throws his arm can't cash. I kind of see some similar shortcomings that Garoppolo had in that the deep ball isn't part of their offense and it's more death by 1000 cuts until they break a long run after the catch but he seems a little more accurate than Jimmy Picks. I just look back at that Ravens game and the QB disparity between the teams was hard to ignore when two pretty equal teams were facing each other.

This Evans character should try catching the ball instead of dropping it.
Edit: see like that. Makes stuff way easier.

Well Evans certainly helped make up for the dropsies on that drive.

But that's Evans career summed up. Wide open easy catch? 50/50 he catches it. Incredibly difficult catch in traffic or double coverage? 80/20 he catches.
