He obviously has most of the qualities needed checked off the list.
We're all in the wait and see camp though anyways no matter what side of this choice you're on.

To me what's interesting about that statement is that it doesn't seem like Huska had the ability to implement the subtle differences he wanted defensively... as the defensive coach. That was eye opening to me.

I've always seen this Sutter/Treliving/Huska/Conroy debacle as an issue of finding the right players for the play style of the coach.
It's pretty clear and known upfront Sutter requires certain types of players (that are harder and harder to find) to win. Treliving didn't find them and Sutter was too stubborn to adjust.
The big key here, whether it's Love or Huska, is that Conroy understands what the style/systems are going to be and getting the right skaters.

I wish someone would ask Conny if he talked to Roy about the coaching job (he famously nailed Roy in the mask in his very first NHL practice).

One of the good things that I took from this is that the process of reaching out to guys for the assistant and associate roles has not taken place at all yet so all those reports about Love looking to go somewhere else as assistant and Detroit possibly blocking Tanguay from coming are bs. Listening to Huska has started me to warm up to him, he is definitely a great communicator. I still have hope now that Tanguay and Love will be part of the coaching staff which is great.

Yeah I wonder how much might be Conroy has those guys in mind for the role and that he just wants them to be able to connect with Huska first.
Also think they have really wanted to give each guy their own moment. First Conroy, then Huska, think next will be the assistants.
Honestly think announcing someone like Tanguay today probably would have taken away from Huska's moment.

After last year I think Hubby has a lot of peoples respect to earn before he is given it in Calgary. I just haven't been impressed. He kinda reminds me of "Xavier LaFlamme".
That's is just my gut feeling as a guy watching the games. He hasn't brought me out of my seat yet like Johnny used or shown emotion like Chucky did.
This team needs a new face. Andersson is pretty high on my list. Just based on on ice play.

No wonder they dont want to demolish the 'Dome, someone's going to find Jimmy Hoffa's body.

Don Maloney, said low scoring games doesn't transition in today's NHL because the players are more fit amd skilled. Seemed to lean on a more offensive style of play. Conroy said we needed more offence and creativity. I think getting young skilled, fast talent into the line up is going to be a priority with this group. I think Conroy realizes because we couldn't keep Johnny we should have gotten something for him.

If they want to get the most out of him for this contract, they should certainly give it to him if he wants it.
The man had a season from Hell last year, and was more composed and professional than he had any right to be.
He could’ve (should’ve?) been lighting Darryl on fire a week into the RW/Looch experiences.
Instead, he showed a commitment to the defensive side that many didn’t think he was capable of. He was one of the best skaters on the team as far as GA/60 are concerned, up there with Backlund and Coleman. He led by example and never once embarrassed himself, the city or the organization.
He’s clearly the most talented player on the team, and he’s here for 8 more years.
Oh Captain, mon capitain.

He’s nothing like that, as evidenced by the results of saddling him with a face puncher instead of someone who can play.
Dougie Glatt saved LaFlamme’s career.

I like that Huska brought up the defensive breakdowns that led to difficult saves for the goalies and was able to provide video on how other teams were avoiding those breakdowns. To me, I thought of them as UHD or ultra-high danger chances. Hopefully, changes are made so that we see those save percentages back up in the above-average range.

Huberdeau hasn't earned the right to be captain. It would be an insult to the others like Backlund who have. Sorry, I don't get "the most talented on the team" bs. For 10.5 million he shouldn't have to be coddled to show he's a superstar.

I would be surprised if Backlund is still here next season.

The PR job I’ve been seeing from the team suggests to me otherwise.
I think he’s back, extended, and captain. He does a lot of off the ice stuff but it’s been cranked to 11 this offseason.

Yeah, I want it to be Backlund but I'm pretty sure he's moving on. So I think it's like Andersson. Especially with the history with Huska with the Heat.

Oh, I think the Org would be cool with extending him at a better number, but if Backs wants to win. I dunno.
