Couple of brutal at bats to bring it to the final man.

Weak call on the check swing. I thought he held up.
Edit: he clearly went around.

Still waiting for a great series so far this playoffs. This one had a classic game but still never really in doubt.

Astros/Rangers has a chance to be great.

Yay bye bye Braves. Now no one that really annoys me will win. Well I’d prefer the NL at this point over Texas squads. Didn’t want to hear more about AA this offseason.

Feels like the rematch is inevitable. You'd give Texas a better shot, but the Astros just know how to win in October, and it seems like the Phillies do as well.

Yeah strange playoffs, there has not been a deciding, there hasn't even been a single extra inning game.

So Phillies would have home field against the Astros (#2 seed) but not against the Rangers (#5 seed). All three teams have the same record but they won the inter league series against the Astros but not the Rangers.

Of course home teams have a losing record in these playoffs.

Arizona is out of their depth but you never know in the playoffs. I’m expecting the Astros/Rangers to be a classic.

Was coming to post the same thing

404-244 in the regular season.

1-11 in the playoffs.

IMO Baseball is now the "Just get in" sport. With a 3 game and then 5 game series you just have to get hot for a week and you're in the League Championship Series.

Yup - the expansion of the playoffs has really made the concept of "just get in" even more important.

As long as we agree the playoffs are getting worse and worse at crowning the actual "best team", this is probably a positive for MLB overall. More teams are incentivized to avoid blowing it up when you can sneak into a wildcard spot and have a legit shot at making some noise and even winning it all. Anything to avoid perpetual tanking is a win in my books.

Yup. It makes me laugh too because yesterday I saw a bunch of "I wish the Blue Jays were managed like Arizona" tweets, even though the Blue Jays had 5 more wins, and 84 wins would have not made the playoffs in any full season before this one.

But with the expanded playoffs it gives teams an incentive to chase a wild card spot to just get in, and then really anything can happen in a 3 or 5 game series.

I'd have to look but I'd wager a guess that three 90 win teams and an 84 win team is the lowest combined win total for the championship series ever.

The four teams left had 354 regular season wins, and they are the ones that beat the top 4 teams that had 404 regular season wins, with a 1-11 record.

I can't find the tweet right now, but I saw it last night and yes this is the lowest combined win total ever for a final four (162 game season). Also the first time there hasn't been a team over 90 wins in the LCS since the format started in 1969. And I think this guarantees further playoff expansion, I think when they get to 32 teams it'll be 9 teams in each league get in. The product will obviously be even worse, but for MLB the thought of both disincentivizing tanking and getting 20-24 teams having playoff hopes deep into September is going to be too much ($$$) to pass up.

One of the best parts about baseball used to be the pennant chase. Now a lot of people don't even know what that means. Still, October baseball can be awesome and dramatic (this year notwithstanding) so it's hard to argue that it should be reduced.

If it were me I'd leave it to 4 teams in the post season from each league but no sport will ever reduce the number of teams in their playoffs.

More playoff teams is OK by me, but I just wish they'd drop the 6 divisions and just rank the teams by league during the regular season.

I think eventually they'll go to 32 teams, and then they probably do a West/East format with 2 divisions per league. I think that would probably make the divisions more or less equal, or at least close enough.

If you added Detroit, Cleveland, and Chicago (The furthest East of the AL Central teams) to the AL East that would make it much more even on average.
