Based on the allegations (at least the ones I'm aware of), Prince Andrew is a rapist and was involved in sex trafficking. Those are horrific crimes on their own; people don't need to juice it up by calling him a pedophile for having sex with a 17 year old (which is the main allegation I'm aware of).

I don't know about other countries, but in Canada there is an exemption to this in the case of prostitution. Also, for anyone who is in a position of authority over the victim.
From the RCMP, ( https://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/en/brochu...sexual-consent):
Quote:
The legal age of consent in Canada is 16 years old.
Exceptions: Persons under 16 years can have consensual sex with someone close in age.- 12-13 year olds (two-year age difference)
- 14-15 year olds (five-year age difference)
These exceptions only apply if the older person is not in a position of authority or trust and there is no exploitation or dependency.
Individuals under 18 years old cannot consent to sex where:- The other consenting party is in a position of trust, authority or there is a dependency on that person
- There is an activity of exploitation (i.e. pornography, sex work/prostitution).
|
This feels like one of those knowledge vs. wisdom things. Knowledge is knowing that having sex with a post-pubescent minor is not technically pedophilia. Wisdom is not pointing this out otherwise people will wonder why you care so much.

As a supporter of the Monarchy and someone who feels deeply about the loss of the Queen, I just want to say, #### you wankers.
You can hate the monarchy or want to abolish or whatever the #### you want.
But supporting our system of government, feeling the loss of the Queen who was given stability in her Reign of 70 years is not a ####ing illness.
You can believe whatever you want, but get over yourselves that you are so much better than the people who are feeling the loss of possibly one of the greatest Monarchs in 1000 years of British royalty.
The lack of respect and empathy from people in this thread is disgusting.
You want to see a mental illness? How about some ####### sitting on a computer slamming people for having feelings. Seriously, get help.

Bit of a stretch to say our country is stable because of her reign.
Our country is stable because we are a wealthy country with democratic traditions.

I personally wouldn’t wait in line for hours to pay respects to anyone’s coffin. But horses for courses. If for some reason Jarome Iginla got a state funeral, I expect a fair number of CP members would spend their day lining up on the street.

That’s not the compliment you think it is.
Also, you want respect? What about respecting the people:
1. That are having their actual loved ones funerals postponed as a ‘mark of respect’?
2. That are having medical appointments to diagnose serious ailments postponed - and by postponed, I mean not getting another appointments for weeks while serious ailments develop further.
3. That are having operations some have waited - and I’m not exaggerating, have waited years for and may actually die before their next appointment because the already longest waiting lists in the history of the National Health Service are being added to unnecessarily.
People are even being advised not to be seen riding a bicycle during the funeral because it is ‘disrespectful’. Councils have cordoned off bicycle racks as a mark of respect with the punishment of a fine and your bicycle removed if you secure it to a bicycle rack.
A holiday park even went as far as saying those staying there would have to leave for the day of the funeral and come back the following day. That’s right, they were going to kick everyone out - mid stay, and have them come back to complete their stays later. They recanted when people went nuts about it.
If you want citations, because the above is ####ing unbelievable, I can provide them.
Yeah, I felt a bit sad when the queen passed - but the sycophancy and the 10 days of this BS has sickened me. I’ve even joined an organisation dedicated to abolishing this circus.
god save the king because I don’t want to go through this crap again any time soon.

Can't wait for the expose when someone pores expense accounts that are FOIP'd and finds that he expensed it, and then the reasoning becomes "I said I was representing the province so I had to expense it to avoid conflicts in our expense policies. I was also working in the line so it's OK!"

And these are all terrible things that are happening, and I am not debating them. I am not even trying to debate whether the day should be a stat or not.
I am saying that the vitriol against people just for wanting to line up and participate is disgusting. I don't care if you have no respect for the Monarchy, the respect I am talking about is for the normal person who wants to spend their time in line to pay respects to someone they believed in.
The last few pages of "this is what a cult looks like" or "this is mental illness" against people who choose to show respect for the Monarchy is what I am calling out.
You don't like them, fine, bitch all you want. Complain about how much coverage there is, I won't say a peep. Bring up these very important points, absolutely.
I haven't seen one post from a pro-Monarchy person saying anything disparaging about those who are against it. But the pile on against people who feel that standing in line for 40 hours to see the coffin for 15 seconds is worth it, that's what I find disgusting.

Europeans are weird about tradition and respect.
I was once told by some old lady in the old country that it's rude to hold your hands behind your back (like in a relaxing or waiting position) and that you DARE not cross your arms if an older person enters the room.

The monarchy does nothing for Canada, provides no stability and we could lose them tomorrow without noticing a difference, that said they have so little effect so they cost little and apart from the obvious absurdness of having a slightly dim big eared idiot who has nothing to do with Canada and wouldn't legally be able to become a Canadian if he wasn't the King as the head of state so I can live with it, the Royals very meaningless to Canada is probably their best quality.
In the UK the Royals are the figurehead for a class system that does vast damage to the UK and the country would be far, far, far, better off as republic, the family itself is weird, at times reprehensible and the Windsor's themselves would be healthier if they were retired
Lining up 15 or 20 hours to shuffle past a coffin of someone you have never met and has had no practical positive effect on your life is pretty bizarre
