I get that it’s Edmonton but this doesn’t make any sense.

Yes it does. It's more of a risk to sign him to the initial contract if they feel like they could never move him at the end - they're either stuck with an early retirement penalty, or they keep him on the team and it hurts them on-ice, or they have to give up more to move him to another team.

I get that it's Edmonton, and they might do it all over again because: derp.
But if the cap recapture fees transferred with the player, there's not another team in the league that makes that trade with Chicago and Chicago is still hooped.

Yup. All Edmonton did was make a trade for a player, knowing the cap and salary implications, and paid an agreed-to price to Chicago for him.

It was the Hawks that signed a player to an end-diving contract, and it was them that benefitted from it, and it is them that should be penalized for the inequity.

This has already all happened with Luongo. You’re trying to change the rules because it’s Edmonton. Kieth is one of the last existing contracts that this will even apply to anyway.

I know it already happened with him. I am not trying to say anything other than the fact that if they made the cap re-capture penalties follow the player/contract it would still hurt the original team and accomplish the same thing

I didn't agree with it then either, although I thought it was funny. I always believed that all risks should follow the player and the team that owns the contract.

His expected ga60 relative to his teammates in Colorado has been positive in all three seasons that he played in Denver. That doesn't suggest a lack of two way ability at all.
I wasn't trying to undermine Kadri's defensive ability although it may have inadvertently came off that way. I just saw some fans referring to his two-way play like its upper echelon in the NHL. It seems his two way play is about average for the tier that he is in (above average top six center).

I think the fact that he is physical/pesty makes some fans give him more credit defensively than he deserves.
He is pretty universally seen as a really good two-way C.

This makes way too much sense to be ignored.

Chicago paid more in salary to Keith than cap for the years they had him. How anyone could suggest that they shouldn't pay the price when he retires a year early is beyond me.

Now, I expect that if cap meant anything to Chicago this year, Keith would not have retired and saddled them with the extra cap.

You can tell the Oilers fans are afraid since the best thing they can come up with is how terrible the Flames dressing room is.......... hahahaha

Whoops! Oil fan letting his insecurity show.

Kadri was a great pickup for the Flames. I actually didn't think he was particularly strong at the 2-way game until literally every report from outside analysts told me he was.

This isn't something Flames fans just made up.

The selke caliber talk is a bit much, but he is pretty proficient at both ends. And he plays both sides special teams. Odd that some oiler fans didn't know this.

Hope McDavid enjoys Kadri's smirking face every time he turns around this season.

Is it really though?

They don't watch games when the Oilers aren't in them, and when they are, they don't really watch how the other team plays. They just look around for McDavid and follow him as he does his wind up toy thing at their own blue line.

Kane at 50% retained is probably the most valuable asset in the NHL that is actually available right now. If you want him, it's going to cost 3 assets that the Hawks want, not 2 player dumps and a late 1st.

"You want Kane? - then give us Holloway, Broberg and your 2023 1st"

"You want us to take $5M in salary back? - add your 2024 1st"
