How does Johnny get called for diving for getting cross checked from behind, trying to stay onside while McRuiningtheGame literally does a pirouette and nothing?
And the thing is many of us called this when the Oilers got eliminated last year. We said watch out for the oilers next year because they are going to apply huge pressure to get more calls. And I wouldn't be surprised if inside the Oilers they have agreed that Connor should 2 things:
- Initiate contact
- when the contact comes make sure the refs see it.
Put the pressure on the refs to make the calls. That's the plan they are executing.
And its the reason i said i wanted no part of the Oilers in the playoffs.

We scored 8 but I feel like this was one of the worst performances in these playoffs. Still, a win is a win.
The only real problem is the lack of a killer instinct. Time after time after time they get a big lead and just, stop. Stop skating, stop pushing and just let the other team back into it. Like, ####ing kill these games off. Make it 9-3 and keep pushing. ####.
Almost reads verbatim from the Flames game 1

Just catching up on the game but looks like the Avs needed to learn the same lesson the Flames did: when you have a multi goal lead, the best strategy against the Oilers isn't to stop them scoring, it's to score more yourself. Just assume the Oilers will always score 5 - and always aim to score more than that. Defending the Oilers is a fools game. Lighting them up is the way to go.

His 'grab the stick and tuck into my body and then spin around to make it look like a hook' is a classic. Refs continue to fall for it.
I think the worst part is how many in the media were all over the league last summer for missed calls. They didn't mention the calls/dives he should've been called for, of course.
I've always said I hate the game management/even up calls in the NHL. If one team commits 15 penalties and the other commits 2, so be it. Call it that way. Just because McDavid can skate fast then spins around or dives on some minimal contact doesn't mean it's a penalty.
But it ain't changing. He knows embellishment works. He'll do it for his entire career. He's not stopping.

Yeah the stick grap / arm tuck followed by a ridiculous collapse makes me hate the NHL whenever I see it.
Gaudreau used to be really guilty for the hand shake when he'd get slashed, but I think he eliminated that from his game almost entirely. Tkachuk does a headsnap, but I'm always more forgiving of a reaction when a stick comes near someone's face because a lot of that is a natural reaction.

My theory is the refs just can’t always make the correct judgment call at that speed, and he/the Oilers have leaned into it. It looks fast on TV. At ice level I can’t imagine having to make that call in a split second.

He plays without honour.

So make the hook call and add the spinerama after the fact, when you realize you were duped again
