It would be nice for the respectability of the league for us to move on. Hopefully the locals will vote this down and we can move on and close this embarrassing chapter for the league.

I'm at the Coyotes' election night HQ in Tempe. Expecting votes to begin to trickle in at the top of the hour.

Hopefully they vote this down and move this sucker of an organization to a stable city.
That 5000 seat arena is one of the biggest embarrassments in pro sports

Yes.

Well, that is one way of fudging what it says but the bottom line is actually this.
Quote:
But there might be more money to be made on a different deal, if one comes along. An economic development expert suspects Tempe is forgoing $64 million too much in future tax revenue to help support the project, for example. And if the land isn't as distressed as the Coyotes expect, it might be worth tens of millions more than the city is selling it for.
|
So as I said, they would be much better off waiting.

Can't see them winning that argument.

That may be true, I really don’t know. But the city of Phoenix is alleging that Tempe is in breech of a legal agreement that has been in place for over 20 years. Without having read the agreement, who knows what was agreed to.
Regardless of the vote tonight, Tempe and the Coyotes will need to deal with this.

More like 13k-19k.
There were also multiple teams that spent 2-3 seasons playing in sub-13k arenas between the late 70s and early 90s. It’s quite a bit rarer now and the AZ one is particularly small, so I have no idea why you’re acting like it’s some usual thing because the Flames did it 40 years ago.

It's not even close. 56-44 in favour of No on two of the props and 57-43 on the third.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Meh. They've been failing for 20 years already. They can move around the state another 20.

I haven't either but I would assume it would have to be no buildings over a certain height on a flight path, this arena is not on a flight path.

Also, although the Flames had the lowest attendance in the league all three seasons they played in the Corral, if they had stayed one more year, they wouldn't have: https://www.hockeydb.com/nhl-attenda...L1927&sid=1984
The Flames averaged just over 7,200 in each of the 3 seasons in the Corral. In 1983-84, the Pens average attendance was 6,839 (then, they got Mario).
In the 3 seasons in the Corral, the Flames per game average attendance was greater than 50% of the average attendance of half the teams in the league. This season, Arizona's average attendance was less than 1/3 that of the 31st overall team in terms of attendance.

With Dallas in the Conference Final and looking to be a potential powerhouse in the Central for the next few years, it would be a good time to get a Texas rival for them.
