Received my Mountain Collective pass in the mail this week. Seems like a good deal as long as you use those days on the farther away hills.

The wind can be something here, but usually there is at least the huck chair running as it's a little more sheltered. Really just the red chair can have issues with wind, but you can usually find skiing around the rest of the hill on those days.

Is there such thing as a fishing rod that will never tangle the string or make me have to screw with the string? I've tried to fish so many times and I just fk up the reel instantly and then throw the whole fishing rod out. It's such a pain.

I was at Canadian Tire at the beginning of the season trying to find some rod for morons or something and couldn't. I need an idiot proof rod/reel that I will never ever ever have to screw with (if that's a thing). I just want to cast into the lake, reel in the hook, rinse and repeat. Seems nuts it's not that simple.

This weekend (Oct 25-27) at the Max Bell is the Calgary used and new ski sale. Has anyone ever gone down to this? Is it worth it?

Hoping to outfit myself and my 11 year old with a set of skis, bindings, boots, helmet as we are new to the sport and don't want to rent this year.

I don’t have much experience with a spin reel. I only fish with a fly rod, and the line does not get tangled often.

Show up 2 hours early on Friday if you want a parking spot and a decent spot in line..

Two tips:
Be ready for crowds and lineups.
Take a friend that knows a bit about ski gear because while there are volunteers, you are mostly on your own.

You can definitely get some decent gear at a good price if all you're looking for is something to get started on that isnt rentals.

Ok, very specific question.
Just bought a pair of Nordica Enforcer 100 in 179cm length used with with bindings. They are last season's ski, new condition. Really good score.
The bindings are mounted to fit my BSL, But the are 2.5cm forward of the suggested mount point.

Anyone skied this ski and able to comment on its characteristics and how it might ski that far forward?
I've skied lots of skis, but never mounted +2.5. I've always stuck to the suggested line.

I've got no problem getting the binders remounted, but will ski them first anyway to see what I think. Was just curious if anyone here good offer some feedback.

If you are looking to get a Louise Card, Sporting Life has a good deal on right now where you get a $50 credit to use until January 26, 2025. It used to be a gift card which was a better deal, but it makes the card $100 if you were looking for something at Sporting Life to begin with.

I found this on a website for the forward mounting:
Moving the bindings forward from the recommended mounting point will make the skis feel shorter because less ski length in front of the binding means that less weight is needed to initiate turns. The upside is that ski will be easier to turn at lower speeds and more balanced on rails and boxes or while skiing switch. The downside is that the ski will feel less stable at high speeds and won’t respond as well in carved turns. The skier may feel like they are “going over the handlebars” at times.

I have the same ski, maybe not the same year, might be a year older. Sounds like people do this for the reasons above mostly for park or terrain skis to balance them out. If you are looking to use them as a true all mountain ski you might want to remount for powder days as it will affect how they ride and float up in powder. Love the ski, you will too.

Bought four Louise cards at Sporting Life yesterday. Mention the original Instagram post by Lake Louise and you then get a $20 Louise voucher in addition to the $30 sporting life credit to get you the $50. Still an awesome deal.

That's honestly probably better, you're going to end up buying those additional couple of days anyway (since days 1,4,7 are free).

Anyone been up? How's it looking so far? I assume it's 90% snowmaking given what the city looks like.

Someone tried to steal my son's skis today at Lake Louise. We label our stuff, so when he was searching the racks he noticed his skis with a piece of Duct tape on it with the name Magnus Z. It was in the same place as my son's name so he pealed back the tape and sure enough they covered up my sons name to try and steal them.
I guess I need to buy some locks now that we have passes at Louise.

That sucks but I actually surprised it doesn't happen more often. It actually seems pretty crazy that so many people leave expensive skis out on the racks. On a similar notion, golf bags at golf courses just left out around the outside of a clubhouse. I guess it is a slightly safer environment than a public street but a well organized team of criminals could make some good cash in an orchestrated effort.

Yeah, we used to ski at Norquay because my son was in BAR up until this season. We never had an issue there, but nobody wants to steal race skis...funny thing is, his race skis cost double what his free skis do.

Anyone you know playing a prank on you or your son?

I don’t get why you would steel skis like that. Like if you were streaking skis wouldn’t you just walk up, take the skis and go? Maybe you put the tape on while you are stealing them for a bit of cover? I don’t get the advantage of putting tape on them, hope the guy comes back and thinks his skis got stolen, then you go steal his skis?

Am I missing something?

It sucks though, I’ve always been pleasantly surprised it doesn’t happen more and have always been lucky.

No idea why he would do that. I could only think is that he saw them, moved them, put the tape w/name on them and ran in to get his stuff and luckily my son came out in the mean time. I would think you just take them and go. Get them to your vehicle and then come back to get your stuff.
