I lived in Hong Kong for a bit. It gets dark at 630pm in the summer. Well it gets dark around 530-630pm year round.

I don't understand the yearly bitchfest about DST, it's such a minor event
We had a family get together on the weekend and my sister complained about the time change because she had kids, as if she isn't fully aware that my wife and I have 2 similar aged kids as well. People just like to blame things.

If you are having trouble with your kids due to the clock change, it's most likely your fault as a parent for making their schedule too strict such that they can't adapt to a small change in timing.

I'd just like to abolish this traditional cycle of debate, where sanctimonious ####s swoop in to demonstrate their inability to recognize that different people are affected by different things differently.

Because this is the "good" time change. You gain an hour of sleep, essentially. The spring forward is another matter, and statistically we know there are more accidents and issues on the Monday morning following it.

I don’t like the time change, but can honestly say it wasn’t a problem with my kid.

DST had never negatively affected me.

Didn’t we have a referendum on this? One that was pretty much an even split? Yes, I know there was controversy about the wording.

I must be getting old. I found myself thinking for the first time ever “you know, this extra hour of light in the morning thing is kinda nicer than the extra hour after work”.

I’m now firmly in the loving the time change twice a year camp.

Agreed, so much better.

I dunno, I am currently in Greece at the moment for a longer term stay and when the time changed in Europe a week earlier than in NA, it was a non issue.

I literally mean nobody really brought it up. It was discussed amongst members of my family and friends as a reminder to me, the Greek Canadian guy to make sure my phone and watch reset, this was after the fact. The first 2 days I assumed I woke up earlier than I thought.

Growing up in the 80's and 90's, I just don't remember debates or concerns or talks about parents, children etc not being able to adjust.

Maybe the complaining is very North American centered?

I know right! Now my VCR flashes 12:00 am rather than. 12:00 pm it's so annoying!

If it was that high Alberta would have changed when that recent referendum occurred only providing daylight savings as an option.

The referendum question on Daylight Saving Time asked electors:

Do you want Alberta to adopt year-round Daylight Saving Time, which is summer hours, eliminating the need to change our clocks twice a year?

Electors could vote “yes” or “no” on the question.
https://www.elections.ab.ca/daylight...sults-updated/

The Chief Electoral Officer has announced the following results for the referendum:

“Yes” – 531,782 votes, representing 49.8% of valid ballots cast
“No” – 536,874 votes, representing 50.2% of valid ballots cast

We should only do the fall time change every year, it's the better one. Get rid of spring forward and everyone would be happier.

I suspect that measure would have passed if they proposed permanent standard time instead. I believe a large enough part of the "no" vote was people who disliked the time change, but didn't want for us to permanently change our time zone.

Yup. I have no problems with time change, but still would likely would have voted yes if it was to change to standard time
