The only downside to a Saturday game I can see for the Stamps is that the Dinos are usually hosting a Canada West playoff game on Saturdays in November. I guess you can move the Dinos game to Sunday as it's usually friends and family attendance for the most part for the Dinos (a little better once it's a playoff game).

Johnny Football released from the Als at the "direction of the CFL". It also says the CFL will not register any contracts offered to him by any other team.

Antonio Pipken is a better QB than Johnny Football, so from a football standpoint it's not a big loss for the Als. It did appear that Manziel was making some strides in the maturity department, this news sounds pretty bad though.

I think the terms were around his sobriety and things like taking drug tests, and not getting in trouble with the law.
I was hoping he'd straighten his life out.

That's disappointing. I'm assuming it dealt with off the field stuff, since it was directed by the league. Although it's ironic because I recall the discussion when Hamilton signed him was whether he would leave after one year, whereas the CFL required him to sign a two-year deal.
I guess we'll find out more if he goes on to sign with a AAF team...
EDIT: I forgot about the massive price Montreal paid to acquire him:
Quote:
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats dealt quarterback Johnny Manziel and offensive linemen Tony Washington and Landon Rice to the Montreal Alouettes on Sunday for Canadian defensive end Jamaal Westerman and receiver Chris Williams as well as 2020 and 2021 first-round picks.
|
All for some extra tickets sold and half a season of mediocre quarterbacking. Ouch.

Saturday for me would be a no go, I'd watch college ball before anything else. Sundays I'm okay with because the NFL isn't that interesting to me most weeks.
You'd never get a game on the air south of the border on Saturday with all the college games going on.

Speaking of USports and the CFL's big game...
The Grey Cup and Vanier Cup could be getting back together.
The CFL championship and Canadian university football national title games haven’t been played in the same city since 2011 and 2012. The two events were paired in 2007 and 1973, both in Toronto.
CFL commissioner Randy Ambrosie has been working with USports CEO Graham Brown on a reunion of sorts.
“We’ve been talking about how we come together. If you look at the analysis of all the strongest pro sports in the world, they have a correspondingly very strong amateur football system and we can never reach the full potential of the Canadian Football League until we reach the full potential of USports,” Ambrosie said on CKRM The SportsCage.
“Graham and I and all of the USports community are talking about realigning Grey Cup and the Vanier Cup because we know that’s a winning formula. It’s something that we really need to focus on and make sure that we’re working together to help strengthen our university sports, the cascading effect of that is going to be a positive effect on amateur football in this country. And that’s something that we absolutely have to be dedicated to.”

Well there's no chance that Finch is coming back now

Finch was arrested again, though, this month after a girlfriend accused him of punching her two to three times and refusing to let her leave his Oklahoma City motel room for 20 to 30 minutes Jan. 2.
He was charged Jan. 29 in Oklahoma County District Court with kidnapping and domestic abuse. He denies the new accusations.

That should do it for his career in the CFL. Too bad he was an excellent player too.

The Stamps and the CFL are ####ing delusional. They want $359 per ticket for my seats at the Grey Cup and that is inclusive of the discount I got for renewing for two seasons. I think I’m done with the CFL after my renewal runs out. Wish I hadn’t renewed. I paid less to go to the NFC Championship game.

Travis Lulay hangs them up: https://3downnation.com/2019/02/28/t...-from-the-cfl/
If we didn't sign Bo, I though Travis would have been a good veteran stop gap to manage the offence and to mentor the next guy.
