I'm now fantasizing about a Tartakovsky Star Trek.
Jeez, digressing here, but where is Primal S2 already!?

I tried to make it through the first episode of Prodigy but couldn't do it... dialog, art style seems too geared towards kids and reminds me of the CG Lego series style of writing/humor; which I can't really mix with Trek in my head. I'll pass and wait for Lower Decks S3 for my animated Star Trek fix.

I probably should have warned you guys that it takes a lot for me to not like a TV show or movie. I like Discovery and Picard so, in terms of consensus with general Trek fandom, my reviews should be taken with a grain of salt.

I think I'll keep trying it for a bit and give it a chance.
I mean Clone Wars started with really blocky animation and was geared towards kids. In the end it was much watch and dark and the characters were developed well.
With Rebels Ezra started out as the annoying wise cracking bumbling character. In the end I'd argue that he'd become a very deep and interesting character and again they slowly introduced some really interesting lore into the Star Wars Galaxy.

Prodigy isnt quite as poor as Lower Decks, but neither of them are going to bring me in to watch another minute. These animated shows arent going to stave off the stench of decay that is quickly forming around the Star Trek property right now.

Okay. You just dont like Star Trek. Thats fine, but Lower Decks was amazing for fans.
I'll continue with Prodigy for a bit, but man...I dont know why they picked Janeway as the character to work with. Of all potential characters?
They may as well have picked Neelix or the Holographic Doctor if they were going to go all-in on sucking.

Yeah, I cringed when Janeway appeared, I just thought she was the worst of the Captains. It would have been better to have a holo of Sisko in all his crazed glory.

I kind of liked Prodigy? Like it was a bit jarring at first and some of the humor / dialogue is obviously very Nickelodeon but by the time they found the ship I was kind of into it.

Prodigy
The good - The animation work is pretty good, it is kind of Clone Wars season three. But its bright, and dynamic and the characters are drawn well. However the one really annoying thing was that when Janeway talks her animation is badly out of sync its like a Japanese Monster movie.
The use of music is really well done. When they were escaping the collapsing stars the sound track really worked.
The bad - The plots are predictable. Arguing teenager crew doing stupid shyte and not asking for help to the end. There's not a feeling of jeopardy or possible failure here.
The ugly - Janeway is her typical preachy pious self on steroids. When she announced herself as a hologram of one of the greatest Starfleet officers eva I growned. The main character is just annoying, not endearing. You don't cheer for him, he's an idiot.

I dislike the animation and the voices. This is just looks and sounds like one of those cheaply made CBC Kids shows. Second episode didn’t do it for me. This is too saccharine for me.

Prodigy was clearly targeted toward kids, but so far it lacks elements/quality that would make an older audience also enjoy watching it. Something almost all Pixar films and the Clone Wars series were able to do.
The only compelling aspect of the show for me is the ship. The design, technology, and mystery surrounding it are the interesting parts.

I have to give Worm a punch of points for comparing it to CBC animated shows which were terrible.
Clone Wars started very child friendly but the adult part of it even from the start was it was set in a war and they could kill off Clones to show it. Then in the second and third season, they started killing Jedi off, and at the same time Clones dying went from oh well to really serious moments as they had been given faces and personalities.
Clone Wars worked because from the start you had established and credible villains. Palpatine, Dooku, Ventress. They need to do more to create the over arching villain here.
I'll give it a couple of more episodes just to see where it goes and to be fair to it. But I will say I like it better then Discovery :P

I realized that I'd rather watch the mess that is Apple TV's Foundation than anymore Prodigy, Discovery or Picard at this point. Will Goyer and Kurtzman please kindly retire please?

I dunno about it being better than Discovery. but I am okay with Discovery, even though it seems like a major sore point for most Trek fans.
But anyway, I just zone out watching Prodigy the same way I did when having to watch children’s shows when my kids were pre-Kindergarten. Clone Wars seem to have been targeted towards older kids, Prodigy is like, I don’t know what age group that is for - 0 to 6? It’s awful, and l feel like there’s going to be a recap at the end about what kind of lesson they all learned.
After thinking about it a bit more, the animation seems a little reminiscent of Reboot. The voices though, why does Dal sound so much like Aziz Ansari? It’s weirding me out.

I have to assume it was to temper expectations. Then boom: surprise hit
