Blues are probably picking Veleno. Probably didn't expect him to go so low.

Didn’t the Islanders take him with their pick, which was before the Flames selection??

Hence why I say probably - they could also have moved up and got him. But even if not, Dobson would also have been a pretty good pick.

Joe Veleno, a kid who was given exceptional status to play in the QMJHL early, continues to drop

Is he like Sean Day where he got exceptional status because he was a more mature player for his age but wasn't really an elite player? Or was he expected to be great and didn't really live up to it?

IMO didn't really live up to it.

But it’s a whole season of what ifs. You’re talking about an alternate universe.

Sure, there’s another timeline where we didn’t make the Hamonic trade. There’s literally no way of telling any of the other things that happened in that made-up timeline after that point.

Maybe we trade the pick to someone else for someone else.
Maybe we finish in a different spot entirely.
Maybe the draft order shakes out entirely differently.

No point in saying “we shouldn’t have made the trade because ______ is available at the pick we wouldv’e had” because there’s really no way to see into that alternate timeline.

Bummer. I haven't followed him but his stats definitely look underwhelming for an exceptional status player.

Yes, that's true. Though I doubt Calgary minus Hamonic would be a playoff team. Probably not much difference in their standings position I would think.

It is interesting to see that quite a few of the first rounders, especially defense, are under 6 feet.
