Yeah it's pretty shocking that discussion of Star Wars might attract "nerd" types.

Be a nerd, fine, whatever. Saying you're going to make it your life's mission to burn Disney to the ground is ridiculous even accounting for hyperbole. I will just never understand getting that pissed off about a movie.

With that said, the humour and some of the more ridiculous parts of TLJ (Leia in space) made it feel more like an Avengers or GotG movie than a Star Wars movie.

ROTS gets lumped in with the other prequels, but it's not nearly as bad.
Here's a poll on the subject:
https://comicvine.gamespot.com/forum...-jedi-1916298/
Obviously there are many people who prefer RotS... It's hardly a "lol" situation, with one movie being clearly better. It's two flawed movies, with personal preference deciding which is best.

I thought ROTS was by far the worst of the prequels and all Star Wars movies. The big scenes were so awful. HC's character/acting/dialogue was so bad. His chemistry and interaction with Portman was so awful. His turning to the dark side was so unconvincing. He killed a bunch of kids and I didn't even have a reason to care. If you can't buy any of that, it made his battle with Ewan Mcgregor just seem pointless and tedious.
II was forgettable, I was a mixed bag of good scenes and cringey scenese, but III was just terrible in every way. I think there's Star Wars fans who think of ROTS fondly for being dark and mostly void of Jar Jar. But darkness is just corny and boring if there is no depth and the writing and acting is not convincing.

I disagree. HC was a bad choice, but in his defense he had some awful dialogue to deal with.
I found that ROTS did do a great job of engaging the audience in its final scene. For example, the sadness in Yoda when he realizes what's happened was conveyed quite well.
I'd also say the movie wasn't overly dark. It has to be somewhat dark, as it's a movie where the bad guys win. There's quite a bit of levity at the beginning of the film though. TLJ was overall very dark too. It continuously relied on quips to break that tension, but many instances were just odd and cringy.

Uhm, TLJ being better than ROTS is about as close as you can get to an objective fact in the realm of cultural criticism.
You may not like TLJ but let's not jump off the lunatic fringe by bringing the prequels into the conversation.

As expected, it has now surpassed the box office phenomenon that is Wonder Woman and leapt into 2nd place for the year after 12 days.
It has 5 days to see if it can record approximately $80 Million to overtake Beauty and the Beast.
I think I'm so excited for it to do so because it will enrage some of the uber-nerds who are so angry that it didn't fit their narrative.

Just saw it. The two things I was most intrigued by from the force awakens (Snoke and Rey's parents) basically ended up being throwaways.
Talk about disappointing. The rest of the movie was okay, but I expected a lot more considering the rotten tomatoes rating. The fan rating makes a lot more sense to me now.

You know they count box office gross based on the the release date, right? So even if it doesn’t catch Beauty and the Beast during 2017, when it overtakes it in 2018 it will still be 2017’s highest grossing movie. The 100 million (or however much it makes) in 2018 doesn’t get counted towards 2018’s numbers.

Do you think the uber-nerds are mad about box office numbers or the fact the movie sucks??
If anything, most high grossing movies are pretty terrible childrens movies, so high box office numbers would actually support the narrative that this movie was Disney'd beyond any essence of a decent story, solid plot, character development, or anything else a person over 10 would want to see in a sci fi film.

That's a new one. It sucks because it did well at the box office.
Ok then.

saw the movie yesterday with the wife. Neither of us are big star war fans, but the last one was fun enough to watch.
We came out with a pretty "meh" view on the film. There seemed to be a large period of time in the film where nothing was really happening plot wise.

Yeah, I'm a little disappointed in TLJ but comparing it in any way to the prequels is just ridiculous.
It was a good movie overall, I thought it could have been better and that it could ave gone in some different directions, just because it didnt doesnt make it terrible, it just makes it different.
I wouldnt watch the prequels again with a gun to my head. I'd tell them to pull the trigger.

I saw the flick a couple days ago and thought it was pretty fun with somewhat annoying plot points, but it was still better than most Star Wars movies. I don't really understand people being so militantly angry with the film but the anarchist in me would also like to see the nerds actually take Disney down.

I am continually flabbergasted with how inept the First Order/Empire is as a military organization.

He was making the point that large studios often put profits and ticket sales above the quality of their movies, which is a valid point.

That is a valid point if talking in general about tentpoles, specifically movies that haven't been released and look terrible.
It is not valid when talking about a specific movie that has been released and can be judged on its own merits.
Oh yeah I've seen this movie and it was good but in general tentpoles suck so I guess it sucks. Makes sense.
