Jagr being a "distraction" is one of the dumbest reasons for not signing Jagr.
If they decide not to sign him, okay, but I hope that's not the reason why.
Hopefully he saw Burke at Orange Julius.

Any reason is a dumb reason not to sign Jagr.
For that reason, sign Jaromir ####ing Jagr.

If anything, the only "distraction" will be that beautiful mullet, shining in post-game interviews, "distracting" awe-struck reporters from asking their potentially inane "interrogative" questions after a Flames loss.
Media: "Jaromir, do you think the team played..."
JJ: "...Played...how?"
Media: "Hmm? Oh...never mind. <Sigh>. Could you shake your head from side to side for a second?"

I'd really like to know what Burke's job is at this point.
Like what are his annual performance objectives? What did he do today? Who did he email? What decisions is he making? Anything.

Gets up around 11, lunch with the boys at Markland Wood, a little cruise down to Port Credit and back on his new regal 3300, and maybe dinner at Momofuku Shoto on University Ave with his old buddy Lou.
Just the normal stuff people in Toronto do when they're getting paid $3 million a year from a payroll out of Calgary

I would take anything I heard at a poker tournament with a grain of salt. Once you're in bluffing mode, it's hard to turn off.
Since when does Jagr have an entourage?

Those are more like groupies than an entourage. Minus the sex part (though to each his own I guess).

I would doubt that a business man as prudent as Murray Edwards would have a figurehead role on the Flames. Burke is the president of hockey ops, meaning everybody reports to him. I imagine a man in his role needs to have a full understanding of every aspect of the hockey side of the business, meaning he is constantly having meetings, calls, or emails updating him on all the going ons of the scouting department, the trainers, the coaches, and the GM. There are a lot of moving parts on an NHL hockey team, and a lot of them do extend outside the GMs role. I'd imagine he's actually quite a busy guy.

Burke has been around long enough, and is smart enough to know anything he tells a fan will be on the web in a matter of hours. He is not giving out team plans at a poker event

Burke's reasoning is extremely odd.
Is that buddy person sure Burke didn't think he said Iggy? Pretty sure at this point BB's job is the hype squasher / rumour infiltrator.
There isn't a single rumour that he hasn't come out and outright denied. Seems he hates player hype too. We got excited about Sven then Gaudreau, and Burkie comes back with No Truculence! Small! and Booster Seats!
Burke doesn't like anybody getting excited about anything.

Not saying it is worth millions, but it sounds like part of his job is dealing with all of these fan inquiries, where there is no way the Flames would provide solid information, even if they wanted to. Defuse, possibly misdirect and distract, so the hockey folks can work on actually making the team better.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

I see no point in listening to anything Burke says, at all. He can do whatever the Flames want him to, but with this organization best to just have an opinion on their actions and not much else IMO.

Burke's comments are a bit strange. I don't get the comment. Jagr's past is a little more checkered than some would like. He does have a history of gambling, troubles with the IRS, and at times a bit of a tough guy to get along with in the dressing room. Maybe that's what Burke was referencing?
