Maybe he should've been willing last year, when there was probably still interest. Teams have to move mountains to add that much caphit.
If he gets traded it's going to be a David Jones type trade where dead weight is going back the other way

The no vote has passed the yes vote for the first time. Where is your sense of wonder people? Iggy winning the Cup with the Flames would go down in sports folklore, and not just Flames.
Definitely an ESPN 30 for 30 Episode, then an Eddie the Eagle type inspiration movie. I wonder who would play young Iggy in the movie actually. Terry Crews for 40 year old Iggy haha.

Jones was the main piece coming back for Tanguay. O'Brien was the dead weight

I think we can call that trade dead weight for dead weight.

I think he meant Jones for Backstrom.

As I have said before, do as Regher (sp) did. Sign for a day, and retire as a Flame. More classy IMO.

Nothing classy about 1 day contracts, those are a joke. He is still going to be remembered as a Flame, regardless of where he retires. So because of that, I would much rather he went somewhere else with a legit chance at winning the cup. If he doesn't care about winning and just wants to play some games in the jersey he is going to be best remembered for, then I welcome him with open arms.

How about if Iggy has some injury where he will be back to 100% with like 5 games left for the regular season? By then we have a playoff spot sewn up so Iggy can play some real games for us..

Guy scored more goals last year than everyone on the Avalanche except for Duchene. It looks like he's lost a step this year, but people are acting like he's barely an NHL forward at this point.
Iggy would be motivated during the playoffs, and to say he doesn't improve our team is just plain wrong. What it comes down to is the cost of acquisition and if we could fit his cap hit.

Scoring goals is not the only essential metric for judging effectiveness as an NHL player, otherwise Backlund would've been out of the league years ago.
Iginla also lead the avalanche with a -22, worse than any flames player last year.

Yes but here on CP we all have been told and understand that plus/minus is a useless statistic.

Really? Well I disagree, I love the fact that Robyn Regehr retired a Calgary Flame as opposed to an LA King.
I thought that was classy as hell. From both sides.

The least classy thing about Iginla retiring as a flame will be when he is inducted into the forever a flame social club instead of having his jersey retired.

There are many strong arguments against adding a veteran winger at the deadline this year. Not the least of which is that Flames aren't resembling a contender.
But I am disappointed in the number of people that seem to want to criticize Iginla's tenure with the Flames. He did far more for this team and its fans, than any current player, coach or member of management. He is a first ballot HOFer and one of the greatest hockey players many of us will ever see. It's OK to call out Iginla but not Dougie Hamilton or Brad Treliving?
Call me over sensitive but it's a weird double standard.

I have nothing bad to say about Iginla's time here. His trade was handled badly by both sides but more by Feaster not getting clear parameters that favoured Calgary.
But a guy who's 39 years old and isn't scoring on a team where he is still getting over 15m per game? I don't think he can take out Brouwer or Frolik on their lines, and he can't do what Versteeg does when he plays with Monahan. And I'd rather not use an Iginla on the 4th line.

The AVS would have to retain salary for any trade involving Iginla, which shouldn't be an issue because he's an expiring contract.
Iginla would have about 1.4 million remaining in salary at the deadline, so with 50% retention, a team only needs 700K in cap space to acquire him. Chances are Iginla would only want to go to a power house, not an underdog like the Flames, even if we're in a playoff spot come late February.
