Backlund and Frolik getting lots of credit but Brouwer is continually setting the tone for the flames after they keep letting air out of the balloon.

He's got so much swagger, it must be painful for him to go from winner to winner to winner and then find himself on a can of a lineup.

The Flames were a bottom 5 team last year and upgrading goaltending while downgrading defense and offense.

The team is full of plugs which is why it's a lottery every shift to see who gets to play with the teams two best offensive players.

Expectations were sky high when they shouldn't have been. This team will struggle to score because there aren't enough players on the team who are good at scoring.

Firing Gulutzan at this point would be folly, this is a layover year until the horrible contracts start to disappear, it was always going to be this way.

They were but arguably the additions they've made over the offseason should've improved the team a bit. And the team last year had a lot of weak goals given up from the goaltending; although the defense certainly wasn't the best.

Plus with a new coach, the idea is to improve on weakness from the season before. Sure it's the beginning of a new season but the PP looks worse than last season. The team motor in general is shockingly low.

But ultimately it comes down to your best players being your best players. And that's certainly not the case. Johnny and Sean are playing nowhere near the degree they've showcase over the past few seasons.

Trying to be patient, but this notion of a player's coach is starting to make me uneasy. The Flames have played 2 minutes of decent hockey through 40 minutes.
