This router sucks. Give me Telus25 back please. Netflix seems to load longer and then will sometimes just pause and glitch out of the blue.

Also the router must be restarting itself over night causing me having to sign into Netflix every day instead of saving my info.

The download speeds are awesome but something must be wrong with the router.

Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I can't seem to resume play on a recording upstairs that I've started watching downstairs. Do you have to pause the show before turning the box off for it to remember where you are when you go to another TV?

I think you have to press the stop button. Give it a second and it should work.

Can you get a static IP with this deal?

I believe I have Shaw Internet 30 right now. What does 5X faster internet do for me? This is probably ideal if I'm streaming live sports, online gaming, etc?

I went from Internet 25, and to be honest, I never really had an issue with my download speed. My incentive was going from 2.5 upload to 15, things like VPN-ing and Slingboxing is now a much better experience. I think that I would have been more than happy with my old 25 down if I could get 15 up, but for $5 more per month, I see the 150 down as a bonus to getting 15 up.

You may notice the download speed increase when starting a Netflix show, for example. Instead of taking a few seconds to get going, it might take a little less. Big whoop, in my opinion. 30 down is more than enough to watch an HD stream of anything.

But what you will notice is when you've got multiple people using a good chunk of the bandwidth. If you've got kids watching Netflix simultaneously on different devices, for example.

Another consideration is that you are also limited by the server on the other end, and its ability to get the data to you that fast. You could have the fastest internet in the world, and you're still only going to download that file as quickly as the server can serve it to you. That multi-gigabyte system update will be faster, obviously, but probably not even close to 6x faster.

i'm getting frustrated by these seemingly constant shaw internet outages. It went down at exactly 1245am this morning, and didn't come up until I rebooted the hitron modem when I got up this AM. I could see my network but, shaw internet down. I couldn't find any warnings or notifications other than work being done at a similar time in the lower mainland. guess I will complain to shaw this morning.

Bridging or IP passthrough and using your own router/wireless equipment seems to be fine. There are apparently are a few problems with ASUS routers. It might not actually be a network outage so much as a Hitron problem.

There was an outage in "NW Calgary" (I hate this city's obsession with splitting this sprawling place into 4 oversimplified and vague regions, but I digress) overnight. This may have knocked the Hitron offline initially, and based on the instances where it has happened to me, the modem can't reinitialize after a brief outage.

I ended up contacting Shaw because the outage was still ongoing at 8 this morning, and they said that maintenance had run late.

I was reading in the Shaw forums about there being a possible hardware glitch on the Hitron involving port 4 (the closest to the coax). One of the Shaw people on there recommended switching to port 2 or 3 to see if that changes anything. This is if you're bridging to your own router, obviously.

Apparently the port dies for some reason, and that includes the indicator lights on the port. It will come back after a reboot of the modem. Whether or not this is isolated to a specific port remains to be seen, but that's something they're trying to troubleshoot. I've made the change at the office a week or so ago, and just this morning made the change at home. Now we wait for the next time...

After a thorough looking-over of my options and the numbers, I've finally given up my grandfathered Broadband 100 (Shaw was regularly jacking the price, still cheaper than the Internet 60 crap they do now). I switched to the Internet 150 package for $79/month.

Fingers crossed I get the Cisco and not the Hitron. If I get the Hitron, it better not give me trouble, as I rely on my home connection for work.

Telus PureFibre, not sure it's available to me yet.

I switched to Telus but I find them much worse for whatever reason. Maybe they give a crappier modem? But I have dead spots all over my house, loading webpages and YouTube is noticeably slower. Even my ps4 speed test is half the speed.

I live in a fiber area but I think I'll switch back. Shaw was $5 cheaper too.

The base modem isn't the greatest.

I would call back and see if they will give you their new T3200 modem - or at the very least an extender - might help with a lot of things.

Okay, I've got the Cisco modem. Is that a good one for the 150? Thanks.

Appears to have less problems compared to the Hitron anyways

the new t3200 actiontec is awesome. very strong signal and dual band, and has built in access point for wireless tv's.

check your bills. Shaw "forgot" one of the promo codes and my first bill was for $200+ bucks (2 months of service). Monthly rate for me should have been 74.99+ GST. Quick online chat fixed it, but that's not a great first impression.

From what I understand the fix for the issue some of you guys are having with the Hitrons not working right when there is an outage will come "soon". < 2 months. Ciscos are hard to get because of well... Cisco EOL the modem.

Yes Shaw is testing a new software for the Hitron modem that fixes this issue. This is only an issue if you bridged the modem. You could call Shaw to turn the eRouter back on and it will not happen. If you still want to use your own router you can use the IP passthrough feature. Or you just wait for a month or too.
