I said that I would rather have the picks, but after reading through the thread, I'm on board.

Still hoping we pick up a 1st rounder before the end of the day though.

Wow! It feels like Christmas! This is an absolute fleece! Hamilton is an upcoming defencemen who can grow with this young core. Can't wait to see this team in 3-4 years!!!

Steve Macfarlane @MacfarlaneHKY
Hamilton was Boston's top possession defenceman last year. Corsi was higher than any member of the #Flames. An area of need in Calgary.

This is the most one-sided trade the Calgary Flames have ever made involving a player named "Dougie".

I can see the scenario where the Bs knew oil would offer sheet, but a) didn't want him going there or to chareli b) wanted the picks this draft, not next.

Told cgy to match offer sheet terms and its done. get same compensation and flip the bird to the Oil.

I'm hoping they deal Wideman for picks before the draft begins.

I give Hamilton $5.5M easy in a bridge deal. Want another RFA period, though, to lock him up long-term along with Brodie. Gio will likely have to settle for a shorter term as a result.

Boys, I have a tear in my eye. I have been waiting for this day since Fletcher left the fold. Finally, to crush a trade. Not since we acquired Dougie the Diddler. Living through the disasters since then to finally see some redemption... It's a beautiful day.

Where's Wideman? I believe he's part of the core.

How about Frolik on RW instead and leave Wideman where he is or trade him?

If Chiarelli goes insane and offers Hamilton $10M, do the Flames match? I think not, as that 1st next year might be first overall. Hopefully we get him signed before 7/1.

Just odd from their perspective. If I was a Bruins fan, I'd be pissed.

This is the first of two things that confuse me about this trade. If that was the ask how does Boston not find a way to get it done? Something is either up with Hamilton or Boston is full on incompenent.

The second is how 28 other teams don't beat that deal. Oilers specifically included. If they settled for a lesser deal just to spite another team - that's also incompentence on Boston's part.

Great deal for Calgary, confused as to why Boston has done this unless there's something deeper.

Thanks Sven. This deal probably doesn't happen if you didn't refuse to sign next season.
