Poll needs to add: "Inevitable considering Sven's poor RGI".

the Canucks are going to be forced to see if he's an NHL player over the last quarter of the season.
This is a boom or bust trade for the Canucks, development time on the farm is probably not an option.
|
I don't know.. he sounded preety excited at the new opportunity and to play for Green's Utica Comets. He's not going to play for the Canucks this season i can preety much guarantee you that because they already have a log jam on forwards when Burrows and Richardson comes back.

Would be wise to not acknowledge the ever so pervasive RGI. we should ignore it and let it die (E4).

Make fun of the RGI if you want to be foolish, but in some form all NHL GMs follow it closely (except Feaster and the bunch in Edmonton) and their breaking of the RGI rule proved its validity.
|
What if i told you, there was no RGI rule....

He sounds like a real good kid.... just wasn't going to work out for him here.
I hope it doesn't work out for him in Vancouver either.... fine if its with some Eastern team though.

But seriously, what is the RGI? Is it similar to Corsi and Fenwick? Widely used by GM's?

And you don't think that Baertschi saw himself as the 5th best small forward on a team that had room for 3?
My stat was just a simple easily understandable way of quantifying what any knowledgeable hockey fan would see.

I voted "Vancouver did okay". While I'm not quite as put off about the trade as I was earlier, I still think Sven has it in him to be a good NHLer. And with VAN lacking in the department of youngsters with potential, It almost feels like the Flames did them a solid.
The 2015 pick is much better than the 2017 pick that was rumored however. It's good that the Flames have been able to collect that number of picks for the upcoming draft. Hopefully it pays dividends in the long run.

You know when you watch the Spengler Cup and you hear those names that you haven't heard in years?
That will be Sven Baertschi in a few years.

Just to add to your point, but I wonder what are the chances that a forward who couldn't stick in the NHL before the age of 23 will have a long NHL career. Sure it happens, but most impact NHL forwards establish themselves in the league before their 23rd birthday. Sure, you get the odd late bloomer, but relatively speaking, it is rare. Given that others have passed him, it wasn't looking good. And it's not like he at least plays defensively or with energy that he can be brought in at the NHL level to develop. It's top 6 or bust for him.
As another poster mentioned.... both teams acquired unknown commodities today. The Canucks have 9 months to see if theirs will play in the NHL. We have a few years. Both have unfavorable odds though.
I am disappointed that we have to now admit that our 1st rounder from that year did not work out for us, but I am not disappointed with the trade.

Isn't it moot to compare players with AHL stats?
I mean Lance Bouma has scored more goals in the NHL than in the AHL...

Or like when you're perusing stats of familiar players in foreign leagues like Nigel Dawes and Dustin Boyd?

How is it horrible asset management when the Flames were told he would not be re-signing in Calgary. Essentially he would prefer to take his act to Europe then play for Calgary.
