Kypreos is promising big things:
Hope_Smoke@Hope_Smoke40m
Kypreos on Fan 590 "people who are looking at how we did hockey the past few years will be blown away by what we have in store"
Hope_Smoke@Hope_Smoke39m
Kypreos "we are going to take it to a new level."
Hope_Smoke@Hope_Smoke16m
Kypreos said watching hockey now will feel like watching NFL football in terms of how they are going to put on a show.

I wonder if Rogers will get to use the HNIC name. It will be weird if it's called that on CBC and something else on Sportsnet. This is pretty much the end of HNIC as a brand anyway.

So yeah - I saw Game Centre, lifting of regional blackouts, and got all excited. It probably won't happen, but that's how I arrived at it.

What inital post? The one you replied to was about Rogers creating a pay product lifting the blackout of its regional broadcasts? That means you could watch out of region Sens games, Canucks games, etc. using it instead of Game Center. It would be limited to Rogers regional broadcasts, not all out of market games.
But yes, of course in-region games would be available the same way they are now. Just as you can't watch them in Game Center, you couldn't watch them with this Rogers product. The national and regional TV deals trump Center Ice and Game Center. And always will.
I'm having a really hard time following your replies in this thread or how you're getting to some of the conclusions you're making.

So if SN has all these great things in store for us, why didn't they bring out one or two of them the past few years to upgrade the quality we've seen so far?
I don't doubt they will try some new things starting next season, but it sounds like Kypreos is going a little over the top. In fact, axing him would be a good start to improving the broadcasts.

Kind of doubt they're going to do bigger and better things if Kypreos is still sticking around.

Maybe they were saving the money for the big bid. Who knows. But since they're going to be the only game in town for the next twelve years, you should probably hope for the best or start getting more into football.

Sportsnet loves Kypreos, his role is going to be massive for this project. I can't stand him like most people but he isn't going anywhere.
Blown away by all this to be honest, Sportnet is... Sportnet.. But if Rogers is serious about this it could be interesting times.

Clearly we're not on the same page, and I'll just say this and leave it: The post (#522) said "Game Centre" and "Blackout free". You take away the regional blackouts from Game Centre, and you get an online subscription product that would let you see a lot of Flames games that currently require a cable subscription or some DNS trickery. Probably not going to ever happen, but it would be something I'd be interested in if it did.
That's all. I'm not going to argue about a product that doesn't exist yet.

Sportsnet has been ahead of the pack for MMA coverage, they really focused in on it while TSN basically ignored it, they still do. As an MMA fan I hope Sportsnet doesn't have to scale down their pretty impressive coverage of the sport

Oh.OK. Now I'm following you. That kind of product would be great, but for reasons you also noted won't come out. The post in question said nothing about lifting blackouts from Game Center. It discussed a service lifting Sportsnet blackouts for Canadian teams, and then compared the service (seeing out of market games for Canadian teams) as being cheaper than Game Center (all out of market games).

They will have enough avenues to show everything and continue their TSN coverage.
They have at their disposal:
Sportsnet Regional (4 stations)
Sportsnet Team Stations (Flames, Oilers, Canucks)
Sportsnet One
Sportsnet 360
CBC (Saturday)
City TV(Sunday)
They are actually building a pretty strong channel lineup. They just need to get the production value up to where it needs to be now. If they can follow through on that promise they will be successful.

I, for one, cannot wait until I see a graphic of a Calgary Flames helmet and an Edmonton Oilers helmet crashing together and blowing up. It's clearly what hockey has been missing all these years.

Lets face it, if Sportsnet manages to keep the sound and play in synch for most of a game, we'd be "blown away".
