Keighley:"Did you know or did you anticipate the way the people would push back?"
Mattrick:"Absolutely - it's a super passionate community of people... till you use it [Xbox One] it's really hard to understand what all the advantages are."

So Microsoft is completely out to lunch.

Also, Don Mattrick is one of the biggest goofs I've ever seen. Everything the guy says or does is awkward, ridiculous, stupid, goofy, dumb, cringe-worthy. He also looks like he has one of the blow-up dolls in his basement dungeon. Oh yeah and he is a terrible presenter.

Lastly, no way in hell was the XBone "made by gamers".

I know I've already posted this picture, but Don Mattrick would fit in perfect with these guys.

Microsoft wants to accommodate you: buy a system quickly enough and you'll get the limited Day One Edition. While the core system won't change, you'll get to flaunt your early adopter status through both a slightly customized controller and a special Xbox Live achievement.
Someone explain to me what the point of achievements are. And who cares besides the person who has them? And if that's the case, why is it an achievement? And if it's not, who's doing that ####-talk? And why in poo perfect hell would a special achievement for buying the thing at launch be an incentive for anyone?

Article on Kotaku recently about achievements actually. I found it interesting . . . and a bit sad.

http://kotaku.com/achievements-have-...ium=Socialflow

It‘s almost midnight and I have spent the last hour killing myself over and over and over again.
205M. Too far.
199M. Almost there.
199M again. So close.
This continues, the tapping of my space bar sharpening behind the force of frustration with each failed attempt, for dozens of playthroughs.
201M. ####, seriously? This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. Why would they even put this in here? It doesn’t take any skill, it’s complete luck.
I am not having fun, quite the opposite in fact, but I stick with it. Getting a score of exactly 200 meters will unlock the last 15G achievement I need in Jetpack Joyride.
This is how I play video games now.

To tell you my honest truth, I don't think I will get the system if I cant play a game as long as I'm not connected to the internet.

It's going to be interesting when the Kinect "films" a robbery/murder/major crime etc. Will prosecutors look to contact Microsoft and use such recordings in a trial? Has the idea of such an event even come up, as with the Kinect needing to be always on, certainly it is going to film its share of criminal acts.

Furthermore, what sort of legalities will transpire from this? Does the buyer own the rights to what Microsoft is filming, or would they be able to hand over anything criminal to the authorities. What about threats towards others, and the like? I don't know if this is even possible, but it has to be if the Kinect is going to be online every minute of the day when its connected.

What about some nerd who hacks into the system and starts recording people getting it on?

http://kotaku.com/ea-denies-asking-m...-drm-512779915

According to EA's Peter Moore, however, one of the world's biggest publishers had no part in Microsoft's decision whatsoever.

Asked by Polygon whether EA had lobbied Microsoft to implement the restrictions, Moore replied, "Absolutely incorrect. As the guy who is the chief operating officer of Electronic Arts I can tell you that EA did not aggressively lobby for the platform holders to put some gating function in there to allow or disallow used games. I am on record as being a proponent of used games."

"EA has never had a conversation", he later adds, "and I have been present at all of them, with all of the manufacturers, saying you must put a system in place that allows us to take a piece of the action or even stop it. Absolutely incorrect."

Ouch, if I didn't have constant access to the internet sound bites like this one would piss me off.

What are you talking about? The Kinect doesn't "film" or "record" anything unless you ask it to and you can turn the Kinect off if you want to.

Well it does record audio, and unless you unplug it entirely it will be on "standby" mode, which means it really hasn't been turned off. Furthermore many users will probably forget to turn it off, and end up leaving it on most of the time, allowing it to record every day events and occurrences. So obviously at times it will record extracurricular events, whether the user intends to or not. I for one also won't be surprised if some people do find to make use of it as a recording device with the way it operates.

Sure you can pause it, but who actually knows what Microsoft will and won't be listening to when its in standby mode.

Here is an article which details why the Kinect always being on is so scary. http://www.policymic.com/articles/47...s-are-so-scary

It does bring up the notion of 1984, and unless you work for Microsoft, can you really be certain what their actual intentions of the device being on constantly is for?

And no I don't have a tin foil hat on, but with the Xbox needing to be turned on every day, so will the Kinect; and with that at least once every day Microsoft will be recording some sort of audio with the Kinect sensor. That's a major change with how the Kinect operates as of now.

Wait. So what you are suggesting is that MS is going to record and store hours of video and audio a day from millions of xbox's all over the world and then use that content for evil?

MS deserves all the hate in the world for their DRM schemes, but this is getting silly.

For evil? No, of course not. For product research, development, and survey studies on a daily basis without the end user knowing about it? Yeah, that could obviously be one of their main intentions with the way the Kinect will now function.

Jesus ####ing Christ how do you leave the house without the paralyzing fear of guys putting a bag over your head and throwing you in a panel van. The paranoia is mind boggling. Trust me if MS is sending data it isn't supposed to be - you'll know by end of release day. Nerds wills be sniffing packets 5 mins after unboxing.

It was posted earlier and at the risk of being a tin foil hat owner - Microsoft was the first major tech company to hop on the PRISM program. The one that has people in the US all up in arms. The NSA and FBI have to be soiling themselves at the thought of a mic and an impressive camera in every living room.

Likely? Probably not, but it was pretty obviously a terrible call and customers were quick to raise concerns.
