Agreed, but I did like how they were used to keep the Jedi possessed by Abeloth under control.

They already did the zombie thing in two of the books, where the Imperials did experiments gone mad.

Probably posted in the comic expo thread somewhere, but figured it should go in here too:

STAR WARS
According to The Calgary Herald, Carrie Fisher confirmed that she will reprise her role as Princess Leia in J.J. Abrams' upcoming "Star Wars Episode VII." The actress revealed her involvement during a panel at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo over the weekend.

"I like being bought by Disney, because they never wanted to buy me before," Fisher said during the panel. "I’m glad they are doing a new movie because they are sending a trainer to my house so I can get in really good shape. So I’m really eating a lot of sugar in advance, as you can see. By the time I really get down to it I will have eaten everything."

First rumoured castong for Star Wars Ep. VII: Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

http://ca.ign.com/articles/2013/05/2...isode-vii-role

I like Meyers. I think he'd be good for a Jaden Solo role. He has a young Harrison Ford look.

Yeah, he's pretty decent actually. He has a face I'd like to punch sometimes but he's a quality actor.

He's great in the highly underrated thriller, Match Point.

I have a feeling that Episode VII will basically be Episode V just slightly re tooled. Luke will probably end up being frozen in Carbonite instead of Han.

I think it will follow the formula of the previous firsts of trilogies.

They'll introduce the main characters, put them in winnable but evil situations and let them win at the end of the first episode without seeing the underlying long term danger.

A lot of people are debating about the main villian. Everything from a re-animated Emperor (I hate that idea), to Darth Plageous (Dumb) to the one that I like which is a re-armed and aggressive Mandalorian Death Watch.

Personally I think its going to be Bimba Jinks Jar Jars great great great spice addled Force Sensitive grandson.

The hero will be Lando Calrissian the 4th the white grandson of the union of Leia and Lando.

His weapon of choice, Colt .45 malt liquor.

Hopefully the rumours of JJ Abrams leaving the production turn out to be true.

Where there is smoke, hopefully there is fire. They have to deny it.. hopefully moving his family to the UK will stop him from ruining this project with lens flares and crappy story telling.

I think we can all agree with this.

I would like someone to explain to me the hate for lens flares; I hear it so often I'm getting irked by it.

I am definitely not a savvy movie critique, but I love the new Star Treks and Fringe.

I still believe the consensus of the general population likes what Abrams has done, and should do the series justice. Star Trek fanboys might not like him, but he had to change the Universe in order to make it a draw at the box office, as there just aren't enough Star Trek fans alone to make the franchise into a success. Which is why most Star Trek movies (and recent television shows) have failed. Even the Abrams movies weren't that successful because it only attracts older audiences. It will be much different for Star Wars, as even the worst Star Wars movie will make a billion at the box office these days.

He's much better going forward than George freakin Lucas, that's for damned sure.

Oh and just for the sake of discussion, while I agree he overused lens flares in Star Trek (Abrams admitted as much), others do see them in a different way. I loved how they were used in the opening sequence though, as it was sort of unique, but they did get played out eventually. Which is why they were less prevalent in the sequel.

Simon Pegg's thoughts for example:

Quote:
Probably some film student who wanted to demonstrate his or her knowledge of film terminology, thus elevating themselves to an assumed level of critical superiority, which gave them the kind of smug, knowing smile that indicates a festering sour grape, fizzing in the pit of their own ambition. It’s become a sort of communal stick to have a crack at JJ with, mostly by people who didn’t know what the f--k lens flare was, until someone started sneering the term all over their blog. It demonstrates JJ’s supreme talent as a film maker that the main means of knocking him is to magnify a throw away artistic choice, into some sort of hilarious failing. Lens flare is essentially an anomaly caused by light hitting the lens and creating refracted shapes. Because it draws attention to the fact that we are looking at a filmed event, it actually creates a subliminal sense of documentary realism and makes the moment more vital and immediate. In the same way Spielberg spattered his shots with bloody seawater in Saving Private Ryan, JJ suggests that the moment we are in is so real and alive, there just isn’t time to frame out all the light and activity. The irony is by acknowledging the film’s artifice, you are enhancing the reality of the moment. It’s clever and I love it. On set we call it ‘best in show’ and our amazing director of photography, Dan Mindel has a special technique to achieve it. To the detractors, I offer a polite f--k you and suggest you find a new stick to beat us with, if being a huge, boring neggyballs is necessary for your personal happiness.

Nothing wrong with it, when done properly. Joss Wheadon really brought them to the forefront in Serenity, embracing them instead of trying to remove them when they caught the camera.

Abrams just went overboard because he's a hack. The Total Recall remake was probably worse for it though.

Idiots that will spend the same money as you will on the movie. Oh and critics love all his movies too (Star Trek was the best reviewed movie in 2009).

But of course critics are idiots too, totally trying to satisfy the mainstream audience and nothing else
