I don't have to. He was claiming far more than people were against the protests, he was claiming that the majority of the people in the city were so against these protests that they wished Nenshi hadn't been elected. These are 2 totally different levels of dislike.

86% of people support Nenshi, as per the recent poll.

For the majority of Calgarian's to now wish that he hadn't won the election, that means not only would 37%+ of the people have to have this one issue be so important to them that they would disregard every other thing they thought he did right, but it would also assume that no other people would 'side with Nenshi' since they agreed with letting the protesters stay.

That is such a huge number for the majority of the city, who are either

a) apathetic to the entire ordeal, as Calgarians typically are, or
b) not impacted in the slightest by the Occupy movement,

that claiming it is obvious they wished that had not voted for Nenshi is absurd.

Big Red has a survey on the go.

http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/NG23X3L

Will be interesting to see the results.

Fat and sassy after a year in power. Or as a couple other posters have stated "arrogant" and "petulant".

You and Nenshi are in for a surprise if you think the love affair Calgary has for Nenshi will continue forever, especially if voters start to get the idea that he is letting the 'inmates run the asylum."

Go to the 12:40 mark for a "gold" type comment. I think this guy forgets that he lives in Canada.
God, that's painful to watch.

Because Calgary has such a decorated history of ejecting mayors who do almost everything wrong.

Oh wait...

Nenshi has said he wants the protesters to leave the plaza and has been very critical of them - but is forcibly removing them as simple as it might sound?

This is an unprecedented sort of legal situation where the occupation of space itself is the protest - therefore can the City forcibly remove the protest based on City bylaws?

Every big city in North America is dealing with the same conundrum - this is why you haven't seen protesters forcibly removed anywhere really from public lands.

Also, keep in mind that a scene where police are dragging people out of the plaza is exactly what many of these people want. "The Man" coming in and cracking heads. Should the City give them that satisfaction?

Again, it's not as simple as it seems.

Well, he's a pretty disgusting piece of garbage accusing Canadians soldiers of aiding genocide right off the bat.

About half-way through the interview, he challenges Tom Flanagan to a duel.

It's worthless. The survey results will not be scientific and not an accurate representation of Calgarians thoughts on the 'occupation' - only a representation of the survey responder's thoughts.

I won't say that, because I think its clear that the guy is mentally ill, and he's living in a fantasy world or has expanded his delusions with the help of about 80 different conspiracy theories.

And I have my doubts that this guy was anywhere near that conflict.

At the end he accuses the city of bussing in Aryan Guards

I don't know about that. The G-8 situation was similar.

Quote:
John Chaput, the city's G-8 project manager, said the city would not permit public park space to be used as a campsite for anti-summit activists.

Such a decision would violate city regulations, and a special bylaw allowing for a camp in a public park would require the city to seek public input and follow a legal process that would take up to six months, said Chaput.
Source.

Am I wrong?

Does Calgary have a recent history of removing a mayor who has done almost everything wrong? Of the mayors since I have been born, I am pretty sure none have ever been removed from power by an election loss.

If it was McIver that had won I would have the same opinion, that he would be in power until he quits. This isn't a case of a supporter being blind to the truth, it is just realizing the reality we live in. People in this city generally don't care enough to elicit change on a large scale.

We have a good life (in general) and that's why these protests are ridiculous for most us, but that doesn't make it a cut and dry issue to kick them out. I say wait for the cold, and the problem will resolve itself quite quickly. These people may be stupid, but I doubt they are that stupid.

No it's not scientific. Just a simple measure of opinions.
Glad to see an Alderman at least trying to garner opinions.

This thread is pretty fascinating. CP is really the only connection I have to the Canadian mindset, whatever that is.

I can understand Daradon's point--if I'm interpreting it correctly. To me it is basically not wanting to end up like us down here.

We can't even run a friggin Post Office.

The same opinions (and scientifically polled ones this time) that she (and others, to be fair) outright ignored when voting on secondary suites?

Would be nice if there was a "could care less option".
