Pospisil takes it in straight sets, very impressive considering the amount of pressure he had on his shoulders.

Awesome to see.

Now let's hope that Canada gets the choice of venue...Calgary would have a good shot @ hosting.

It means so much to see how hard Canada has worked to get to the World group. Amazing.

I'm not sure if anyone is from Toronto, but tickets are now on sale for Raonic versus Sampras. Sounds like a fun exhibition event and it's great that Pete is doing it!

Good news for tennis fans in Calgary. It appears the city has a good chance of getting the opening round here.

We do. The event has to be indoors in February so it takes the normal Rogers Cup venues out. Tennis Canada says it's looking for an arena that holds about 8000 so that it's noisy. Corral fits all that.

However seeing that it's a big event and with France coming, I have a feeling it'll be in Montreal in one of the smaller QMJHL arenas they have available.

I went to the Corral for tennis a while back, Canada vs Chile. Anyone remember that?
Would that have been Davis Cup? May have been 6-8 years ago.

Anyway, it was a crazy atmosphere. Very entertaining, exciting.

Milos is back in Tour action.

ATP 500 Tokyo

Here's the draw

Raonic vs Sugita in the first round, if he gets past that, it's a rematch from last year with Nadal!

Raonic just defeated Sugita 6-7, 6-3, 7-6 in a longer than expected battle. It's always tough to play a host player.

Raonic-Nadal tomorrow night!

If you're an insomniac like me, Raonic against Nadal is on Sportsnet ONE and Sportsnet.ca right now!

Monfils and Raonic are playing in the Stockholm semis on Sportsnet ONE!

The picture quality is really bad though.

Vancouver will be hosting the Davis Cup for Canada versus France. I'm disappointed that it's not in Calgary, but Vancouver's close enough I may back the trip out there to check it out.

I'm definitely going to make it out to UBC for this. Would love to see Milos and Vasek live in action. Something tells me this event will need more than just the 5000 or so seats at UBC, but a sold out building will create a great atmosphere.

It's ON!

Quote:

During Tuesday's official announcement that the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre in Vancouver would host the 2012 Davis Cup World Group tie between Canada and France, Tennis Canada unveiled a pair of provocative posters to promote the event. The Vancouver Sun reports that one featured Canada’s top player, Milos Raonic, with the tag line: "Hey France, I’ve got a 151 m.p.h. serve. Try returning that with a baguette."

Another poster has Canadian player Vasek Pospisil saying, "Hey France, Welcome to Vancouver. My hometown and your worst nightmare."

Tennis Canada’s Gavin Ziv said the arena will seat just over 4,500 and he hopes it will create a "loud and vibrant atmosphere while still remaining intimate. We’ve got to teach the people how it’s done around the world and we should do the same here. We are patriotic. We showed it during the Olympics and we can bring that here. Don’t come in with the mentality of ‘Quiet please.’ You’ve got to cheer for your country and make it hard on the other team."

Milos Raonic has been named the ATP Newcomer of the Year.

http://www.atpworldtour.com/Fans/Fan...nced-2011.aspx

Quote:
Milos Raonic: The 20-year-old jumped from No. 156 in the South African Airways ATP Rankings at the start of the season to No. 31 on 14 November 2011. After compiling a 4-6 match record in 2010, he went 31-19 in his first full season on the ATP World Tour. He became the first Canadian to claim a tour-level title in 16 years, winning San Jose without dropping a set (d. Verdasco), and the following week reached the final in Memphis (l. to Roddick).
