Canada fails to qualify for the World Cup after losing to Chile.
First time Canada won't be in a RWC.
It's tragic what's happened to the program.
A little bit surprising because they beat the US in Canada for the first leg of that one. Then they got killed in Colorado (I think?) and this was their way through.
It’s sad though. I saw them play Chile here in Calgary years ago and we were by far the better team. It was a long time ago, but to lose to them now is as much an improvement in Chile as a complete mess in Canada.
Damn that sucks. 10 years ago I saw the Canadian team hold their own in a World Cup prep match against the Australian Barbarians. They then went on to beat Tonga and tie Japan at the Cup just missing out on the automatic qualifier. It's been all downhill since.
Crazy the USA may not qualify either. After losing to Uruguay they now also have to beat Chile.

The program has been in decline for a long long time.
It is appalling what the sport has become in Canada.
Oh, I’m well aware of the decline. But I mean it was a bit of a surprise because we beat the US and I had hoped that maybe the cycle was changing. It’s grim though.
Yea you're not alone. I wasn't a fan on the Ian Foster coaching hire at the time and I'm even less a fan of it now. All Blacks have looked completely disjointed the last few weeks. If it were me, Scott Robertson come on down!
But you are right, the French style of rugby is great when they are on. I have a few bad memories etched in my brain as they usually get up for a game against the All Blacks...

What if we have a dance off to decide who gets the job?

That was a kick in the nuts. Why is it always the French refs?
I'm amazed how respectful rugby players are towards the officials. Hockey players would have been screaming at the ref in a similar situation.
They get thrown in the sin bin for yelling at the ref. The only person who can talk to the ref is the captain, which is why you see the ref talking to the captain so much and tell him to talk to his players.

Yes and no.
There is an unwritten rule that senior players are able to speak to the Ref.
My man Jason (a Calgary Hornet) gives a good example here:
