No, but Rory Macdonald absolutely destroyed Nate Diaz. I loved that fight. It was a beatdown.
Still couldn't finish him though. Tough bugger.
I saw it live in person. That was probably my favorite fight of the night. I felt so much Canadian pride seeing that and then Hominick give Aldo a good fight.
After his latest traffic infraction, former UFC champion Jon Jones will need the permission of his probation officer to use a motor vehicle.
Things will be worse if Jones finds himself in trouble again, a judge for the Bernalillo County (N.M.) District Court today told the former UFC light-heavyweight titleholder.
“Jon, if you do come back here, it won’t go well,” the Judge Michael Martinez said.
Jones, 28, agreed to a plea deal that requires him to compete a driver-improvement course, enroll in an anger-management course and complete 60 additional hours of community service after he picked up five traffic citations this past Thursday for drag racing, exhibition driving, weaving, failing to properly display his license plate, and modifying his exhaust pipe.
The Bernalillo County District Attorney’s office hoped to implement a nighttime curfew on Jones, forbidding him from leaving the house between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. But the judge instead issued an order to require Jones to get permission to drive.
The highly-anticipated rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones won't be happening later this month after all.
An injury has forced Cormier, the UFC light heavyweight champion, to withdraw from the fight, MMAFighting.com has confirmed via multiple sources. Cormier wasn't available for comment when contacted by MMAFighting.com Friday night.
BJPenn.com first reported the news.
Cormier and Jones were scheduled to headline UFC 197 on April 23 in Las Vegas. It's unclear at this time whether Jones, who hasn't fought since UFC 182 in Jan. 2015, will remain on the card or when Cormier will be able to return to action. Demetrious Johnson vs. Henry Cejudo for the UFC flyweight title was the co-main event.
On Tuesday morning, Jones was arrested for violating his probation after receiving five traffic tickets last week. He was released from jail Thursday afternoon, and shortly thereafter the UFC announced that he would remain on the card. That was before the organization found out that Cormier would not be able to compete on the card.
Wow, that's sad. When you see all of these concussion/brain injury issues with other sports you have to wonder how long MMA can keep the wolf away from the door in general.
Terrible news regarding Joao Carvalho.
To see a young man doing what he loves, competing for a chance at a better life, and then to have it taken away is truly heartbreaking.
We are just men and women doing something we love in the hope of a better life for ourselves and our families. Nobody involved in combat sports of any kind wants to see this. It is such a rare occurrence that I don't know how to take this.
I was ringside supporting my teammate, and the fight was so back and forth, that I just can't understand it.
My condolences go out to Joao's family and his team. Their man was a hell of a fighter and will be sorely missed by all.
Combat sport is a crazy game and with the recent incident in boxing and now this in MMA, it is a sad time to be a fighter and a fight fan.
It is easy for those on the outside to criticise our way of living, but for the millions of people around the world who have had their lives, their health, their fitness and their mental strength all changed for the better through combat, this is truly a bitter pill to swallow. We have lost one of us.
I hope we remember Joao as a champion, who pursued his dream doing what he loved, and show him the eternal respect and admiration he deserves.
Rest in peace, Joao.
Lyoto Machida claims he was unaware the substance he took that led to his removal from Saturday’s UFC on FOX 19 fight with Dan Henderson was banned.
In a statement released on his Facebook page following the news Machida was out of the fight with Henderson after he had admitting to taking a banned substance, the former UFC champ explains he used a supplement called 7-Keto, which contains DHEA, a substance listed as an “anabolic agent” by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).
Machida (22-7 MMA, 14-7 UFC) claimed ignorance and said he didn’t know the substance was banned, which is why he revealed his usage of 7-Keto during a drug test prior to the scheduled rematch with Henderson (31-14 MMA, 8-8 UFC) at Amalie Arena in Tampa, Fla.
“Guys, I just wanted to let you know that I was caught off-guard, too,” Machida said in his native Portuguese. “It’s been very hard for me. I trained very hard for this fight. I dedicated myself a lot with my team. I want to tell you that I didn’t know about this substance. It was something that actually declared in my test. I said, ‘No, I’m taking all these things,’ and this substance was banned in 2016.”
