Upgrading their defence could be the step towards that.
Jersey don't need dmen. They struggled last year because they had 2 teenagers playing their 1st season the NHL and their top dman out for the year.

They need depth forwards now that they got Markstrom.

I'm wondering what Florida will do with Spencer Knight. Would they consider trading him? Would the Flames be interested in a Wolf & Knight tandem?

They need his cap space and Bob is not going anywhere now. He should be traded and likely could be had for way cheaper now.

I'd imagine they still see him as the successor to Bob

We still have a lot of ripping down to do yet
Could easily see 4 or 5 moves yet before we are done, not all in the immediate future but wouldn’t be surprised if one or two happen sooner rather than later

Reinhart, Montour, Lundell plus some quality depth guys all need to be signed.

Bob has 2 years left and they are a cup contender, why are they worried about who their goalie is 3 years from now when most agree goalie can be had for cheap in trades?

They have 20 million in cap next year with Reinhart and Montour being the last big UFAs to sign. they aren't super tight on cap. My guess is they already have a pretty good handle on what their team will look like July 2nd.

If by big play they mean an overpaid two year contract then sure.

This feels like Troy Brower all over again.

Timing in regards to the rebuild would make it more like Mason Raymond.

True, but they have a lot UFAs to replace, and next summer Ekblad, Bennet, and Verhaeghe are all uFA. Have to pay or replace them too

Yeah but if they don’t need to trade Knight then they can run with him next season and decide. If worse case happens they can buy him out really cheap next summer

I did ask some follow up questions regarding the idea of the flames floating a D-man in another trade. Was told they already explored other assets going both ways and couldn’t find a fit, doubts the Flames and Devils reconnect again before the season starts.

There are legs to DeBrusk to Calgary, but only on a realistic deal.
Craig isn’t looking to handcuff this team, but if DeBrusk signs I’d expect Eatbred to be moved out.

Not at all. Brouwer was a middle six guy being paid more on the back of a strong PO performance. Debrusk has been an OK player who will be paid as such.

I kind of meant the building a home and being linked to us right away and not making sense.

Although I checked and Brouwer had 8 goals 5 assist in 20 playoff games. 106 career playoff games 16 goals and 19 assists. Hardly a strong playoff performer.

Debrusk just had 5 goals and 6 assist in 13 playoff games. Career 86 games 27 goals and 20 assists.

If DeBrusk wants an Orlov-like contract? Sure. 6-7 year term? Have fun in Edmonton.

I’ve heard Cale Makar owns property in Calgary. Sure hope the Flames stay away from him.

Suggesting the Flames shouldn’t sign Jake Debrusk because he and Troy Brouwer both had been building homes here is about as thin an argument one could table.

You know, I heard James Neal drives a Mercedes Benz. The Flames would be outright foolish to sign another player who drives a Mercedes!
