What's this talk of not starting Gausmen tomorrow? The team seems to have found themselves a bit, offense is rolling, great chance at a win tomorrow. AND they still get the bye if the Yankees lose. Two chances at first place and team is playing well and we're going to concede and play for the better wildcard rotation?
No way man. On top of the odds being way worse for conceding and playing for the best wildcard line up than just playing for the complete erasing of the wildcard series tomorrow, you also have to consider how it comes off to the team confidence to do that to them.
You pull Gausmen from his start and the whole team understands the strategy and subsequent message.

And what if you don’t start him, but you make the ALDS anyway (by winning or Yanks losing). Then he’s had like 12 days off between starts and his rythym might be buggered. Like when they skipped Lauer back in August.
Start him. Dominate. Win. And now he’s got the ideal six days off before starting game one of the ALDS.
Perfect.

Jays hold the tie breaker if both teams win. A win by the Jays along with a loss by the Yanks would also get them in.

Jays praying for help tomorrow. They aren't sweeping.

They do seem like an Atheist group, part of why I like them.

sometimes in different sports it takes teams a while to learn how to play in high pressure games.
this is an nhl forum. look colorado, florida etc. it took 7 or 8 for them to win a championship after stars like barkov mackinnon drafted.
I am not saying jays will win a championship
what has this team learned? we will see. I hope for a playoff round or two. It would be awesome.

Why couldn't they sweep? They have their best pitcher on the mound, bats are starting to come around and Tampa Bay has nothing to play for.

If they hold Diaz out that removes a guy the Jays can't get out from the lineup.
I would save Lauer to use as my starter for a wildcard game 1 if needed as my contingency plan. He got roughed up against Minnesota a month ago when his routine got thrown out of whack but he was really good on Thursday against the Red Sox.

It's a defense mechanism. As a canucks fan all he knows is misery so he avoids hope at all costs.
