But if the writing was on the wall (which it seems like it was) that Treliving could walk after the season, then why re-sign if the guy you like isn't here.
Because his choice was bigger than hockey. It's about the Tkachuk brand. Most marketable hockey name and face in the US Hockey Circle.

Calgary ownership is a strange beast. They don't trust their own management, but at the same time it seems like they take 1-2 years longer than the fanbase to see the writing on the wall with regards to firing these guys when their time is up

Should I expect things to stay quiet until the break?

Craig’s cooking, one of the most active right now leading up to the draft.
Flames remain interested in another top 15 pick, question remains how do they get there.

It’s so hard to be excited until the oilers are out haha. But I’m praying panthers win in 6 and another top 15 pick comes to the flames by this weekend. Tij Catton become the faces of our rebuild

Conroy saying Andre Mangiapane needs to step up in a leadership role to fill some of the void.

Really hope he is not in our long term plans.

I doubt the Flames are in Mangiapane's long term plans.

Maybe a 2nd round pick?

CapFriendly has Calgary with 2 remaining retention slots after the Markstrom trade. I was under the impression that the Tanev and Hanifin retentions would be in effect until July 1, but did they actually end on the last day of the regular season? If they have 2 retention slots at the draft, that would be helpful to make moves...

They aren't being paid anymore, so possibly could be the end of the regular season.

Jay Random quoted something out of the CBA that showed that retention spots end once payments stop which I would assume is the end of the season.

Mentioned this in the draft thread but would not be surprised if New Jersey and Calgary could reconnect around Andersson for 10th overall. After trading Bahl, they are down a defenceman. It’s possible they have a young player/prospect ready to step up but Andersson would be an upgrade for them. After trading for Markstrom, they are signalling an “all in” direction. Upgrading their defence could be the step towards that.

IMO Buffalo makes more sense for Ras. Their defense is very left heavy, whereas Jersey has Hamilton and Nemec on the right.
