Craig isn't looking to long term FA's I'd imagine, there'd be no shame loading up on guys you're going to re-flip in 1-2 years.
I would think he's smart enough to not go out and start handing out 5-6 year contracts for some of these UFA's who are looking for big raises.
Reinhart for example, I don't see him putting up those kind of numbers in Calgary playing the system we do.

There is shame/risk though. It puts the Flames own 1st round pick at risk.

Oh I totally agree, and I'd argue Craig knows very well too that Brad screwed him on the way out and the Flames cant afford to lose their 1st next year.

BadTree got frustrated and ####ed with the only assets he didn't need permission to use.

This statement is hyper concerning. Why is it that our GMs constantly have fetters on and require permissions?
Meddling ownership alive and well, insider confirms.

The roster is pretty full too...I'd be surprised if they do too much in free agency without moving other pieces out first.
Wolf
Vladar
Weegar-Miromanov
Kylington - Andersson
Bahl - Pachal
Hanley, Solovyov, Poirier, Grushnikov, Kuznetsov, etc
Huberdeau - Sharangovich - Kuzmenko
Zary - Kadri - Pospisil
Coleman - Backlund - Mangiapane
Pelletier - Rooney - Coronato
Greer, Hunt, Klapka, Schwindt
They already have more bodies they probably want to work into the lineup than they'd like and would want to move some more pieces...let alone add more in free agency.
Maybe one piece...but I don't see them really adding a lot of pieces.

I question if Sharangovich sticks at C. I could see the Flames adding a depth C behind Kadri and Backlund. Someone like Girgensons or Blueger.

Or maybe your boss lost faith in you and changed his expectations on spending his money... Ahem Brouwer

Should have fired 'em before he went into his final year of his contract.
Never let a GM go into the final year of his contract.

I would love to see them try Pospisil at center. He has said before he views himself as a center and I feel that given his injury history and what I think is very good passing ability he could be a decent center.

These 8 require waivers and my guess is those are your 8 to start the season if nothing else changes. I also don't think they'd be too worried about losing Hanley on waivers if somebody like Poirier impresses in camp.

None of the good UFAs will want to sign in Calgary and I have more faith in Conroy now than ever for him to sign mediocre UFAs to long term deals.

Culture starts with Conroy and Iggy. That's why they've been given the keys.

I always have wondered about the Tkachuk thing...
Tkachuk mentioned he had a great relationship with Treliving.
But if the writing was on the wall (which it seems like it was) that Treliving could walk after the season, then why re-sign if the guy you like isn't here.

Brzustewicz, Jurmo, Porier, Grushnikov and Kuznetsov are waiver exempt.
Everyone else - including Solovyov - is waivers eligible.
Weegar-Miromanov
Kylington - Andersson
Bahl - Pachal
Solovyov - Hanley
That's pretty full, plus I would argue that Kuznetsov, Grushnikov and Poirier will all probably need some NHL time as well as part of their development.
I don't see the Flames adding through free agency here without trading some defencemen away.
Forwards are full as well.
Huberdeau - Sharangovich - Kuzmenko
Zary - Kadri - Pospisil
Mangiapane - Backlund - Coleman
Pelletier - Rooney - Coronato
Hunt, Schwindt, Duehr
Klapka is still waiver eligible, as is Coronato, but both could probably use NHL time as part of their development. I would add Stromgren to that list as well as he took big steps.
That's a fairly full roster already. Whomever comes in as a UFA signing will push someone onto waivers. That's why I don't see the Flames being big on the UFA market, unless they move bodies out, or simply don't care about the guys who they are thinking about exposing (if any).

The Markstrom trade was the bellweather for me. Every other trade could still hypothetically be attributed to not losing players for nothing even. There is no way the Markstrom trade can be construed as an anything but a rebuild trade.
