I agree, I’ve suggested trading Finns with Edmonton, but I don’t think they would.

A lot of teams would probably go for Kylington, long before Val. It’s likely now that OK is pushed down to third-pairing duties. Perhaps we can get a young forward for him.

Kylington + Zary for Konecny (helps Flyers as well since they have cap issues)
Move Valimaki for 3rd
Sign Stone and he can split 6/7 role with Mackey

Valimaki doesn't have much value, but neither does Puljujarvi at $3M. The Oilers would love to dump him, and if they can get some defensive depth while shedding $1.5M, they'd be crazy to say no

The Flyers have cap issues, but they aren't going to dump Konecny for parts

Dump him? They just signed him lol.
They could just wait for waivers to pick up Valimaki or an equivalent.

I don’t think Kylington and Zary are parts. Kylington is a budding offensive D man at a good contract for 2 yrs. Zary is a decent prospect.
Konency was very good in 2019/20 but has been average since then. I don’t think the value is far off.

They signed him because they had no choice, it was an arbitration case.

They could have just not given him a qualifying offer, they then could have gone to arbitration if they thought he was worth significantly less. He He’s on the team because they wanted him, for better or worse.

They didn't have to tender him in the first place. They also settled at that figure before arbitration.
Ultimately, I think the Oilers are just fine having JP at that dollar figure ... but I also don't think he's the guy for Calgary.

I think they should keep the defensive depth and try and sign a guy like Stastny, Kessel, Rodrigues.

Agree! But please no Kessel, the other two would be ok.

I think they figured they could move him, once he had a contract, and are surprised at the complete lack of interest in him. And now they are stuck with him when they would much rather have the cap space

I was wrong.
So, how about moving dube and valimaki for a right winger in a similar age range?

I would rather move a Kylington vs Valimaki/Dube, Dube is a nice versatile depth forward piece. On top of that, think OK gets you a better return than both those players maybe combined given Dube’s Hockey Canada issue (if there is one)

I try for Cody Glass. At worst he play in the bottom six and Brett Ritchie himself. At best, he finally gets his game up to snuff and turns into the gem he once was touted to be.
